Nope, not at all what my initial posts on the thread was about. I just think the possible collateral damage of being wrong on this subject is too great to not at least think about ways to address it. Especially, when you can address this issue and solve many more issues with one concept....solar energy.

Kyle, I'm in your boat on this one. I'm not a technology buff (not even close), so excuse any misinformation I may give on my opinion:

First, I'm no Oil guy. I believe that Big Oil is along the same lines of evil as Banks, Insurance, Pharma and Tobacco before Clinton kicked it's arse. The only thing that I understand about oil is that it is much more than gasoline and motor oil. It is used in so many applications in manufacturing. It is likely that crude oil, in any refined manner, is used in what I believe to be a conservative estimate of possibly 80% of what we use and purchase on a daily basis. Televisions. Furniture. Textiles. Packaging. You get the picture.

Energy, too. But we'll get back to that.I

Solar power is fantastic, in theory. We've been able to harness it for awhile now. Unfortunately, my experience has shown that the technology has not advanced not nearly as much as, well, everything else has jumped in the last 40 years. Not even close. In fact, solar tech is very much the same as it has been for years. And it's not for lack of research or funding, although it can be argued that funding is possibly less during Republican administrations.

Until solar energy can successfully provide the requisite amount of energy needed in the most efficient and cost effective manner, oil and coal will continue to be the most efficient energy...environment be damned. This opinion can be applied to wind generated power as well, though technology seems to be making better strides.

Batteries for Tesla's and other hybrids are another story. Sometimes I wonder if people know what types of metals and materials to into those batteries, not to mention the computers and hardware that make up such vehicles. Those batteries don't last forever, not nearly as long as an internal combustion engine. It takes several of them to operate the car, not just one. And they are loaded with very rare and dangerous elements. Where will all those dead batteries go? And who wants to buy a used computer? The Tesla and it's drive system is mostly computerized. Most computers I've had over the years start having issues in less than 5 years. And don't forget that it takes a lot of oil to manufacture the chassis, frame, tires, bumpers, computers, etc aside from the "motor".

My point being, that even with "green" vehicle technology, "oil" means so much more than fuel, energy or carbon emissions. Even if everyone in the world rode a bicycle everywhere, oil sheiks will continue to market it because it is a basic and necessary element that is currently crucial to human civilization...right down to those stretchy nylon Hurley trunks we wear in da water.

But I also believe that we all should make the effort to clean up our act a bit. Use the clean stuff when and where applicable. Keep researching clean alternatives and make sure they receive the appropriate amount of funding, because we should have learned that indiscriminately throwing $$$ at an issue doesn't always equal results.

Oh yeah, and pick up your focking trash.

    Just my .02 cents brah

All I'm saying is you want to drastically alter the way of life for the entire planet on something that can't be proven.
That's foolish. That's like saying the consensus of paid witch doctors says that the boogyman lives in my house so I better burn my house down.
Also their is no proof that altering our way of life will have an effect other than faulty science prestented to the public by organizations that have a political agenda.
But you don't care to educate yourself because you claim that anything I link is op-ed. None of it was op-ed.

Don't get me wrong, pollution and deforestation are big problems that need to be addressed.
But in regards to "Man Made Climate Change" you are proposing to cut your nose off to spite your face.
There will be significant impacts on human well being if we follow the UN and WEO plan.
Read up on Agenda 21 and Agenda 2030 right from the UN's own website.
It's not my op-ed site it's the people who are pushing for what you are pushing as a solution to a problem that is like the boogyman.
These links are the United Nations not some op-ed.

    Thank you Kiddie for that.
Like I said oil isn't going anywhere.
Do do away with it would be devastating to the human population.
And Kyle, stop being so paranoid to what the future may or may not hold.

Oh and Kyle I never dismissed the need for solar either. But their are some issues of environmental impact associated with it as well, so to blindly dive into it is foolish until the technology is there.

I did not walk on Capitol Hill with those types of women, and would have refused to support them, even if anyone had offered me a few billion dollars to do so; however, I am a surf slut, as well as a weather and climate slut, while I am most certainly a cyclone slut, with focus upon hurricanes and tornadoes. Such has been the case with my research, spanning a very long time, indeed.

I loved my college studies via crazy ole Sagan, but I had an interest in cosmology long before such time, and for good reasons (dinner table discussions from early youth). The theory of black holes held my initial focus, but it was under Sagan's tutelage that I became rather keen for hurricanes; the theories behind them were extremely limited, at such time.

What do you think that you can teach me about all of these things, and how they interact with one another, you brainless, foul-mouthed, liberal monk? I believe you must have missed the reference to "20 years", within that image, and such is most certainly relevant, as are all aspects of space and time.

Nah viejo, Pharma is a necessary evil like oil and insurance. And I gots to have my drugs.

You gotta admit, they are a greedy bunch. Record profits aren't always generated by goodwill.

Not an expert with black holes, by any means, because if you read it "againe", I switched my focus to hurricanes.

Ok, I will repeat myself for the 5th time, it is NOT just about climate change. I listed many other benefits that would emerge from solar being much more used in our grid system. This isn't about forcing everyone onto solar to stop climate change. I believe solar can be used as a mechanism to ignite our economy, help rebuild infrastructure, solve our energy problems and also help destroy ISIS and the radical Arab states in the Middle East.

I say all you post is op-ed because I really don't care about what sources you use to form your arguments. I would rather you just put organic and logical arguments from your own head. I don't give a **** about the UN or WEO when it comes to this. You keep trying to paint me as some collectivist trying to push the mad made climate change pusher. Like I've said ad nauseam, stopping or correcting man made climate change isn't even in my top 3 reason to try and go more solar.

I am not saying get rid of all oil, that's ridiculous. However; if we cut down on oil consumption 30-40% across the board, imagine what that would do to the price of oil. I would be happy with a 60-40 split, 60% even being oil.

Valiant and noble, but currently unrealistic.

But when the technology improves to the point to make this actually feasible, I will be the 2nd person in line behind you.
