*intro TO dslr* hey guys, i dont know if any of you are into photography but i want to upgrade to my first DSLR camera, mainly surf photography but not able to drop $2000 for a camera that shoots 10fps or anything, right now im deciding between a Canon t3 with kit lens and 50-300mm lens or a canon t2i with just the kit lens, but my birthdays in april so i could get a lens than to upgrade if i got the t2i..any thoughts?? (im aware this is a surf fourm not camera fourm haha) thanks, Alex
Im going to say go with the Canon t3 with the 50-300.I have a rebel xs with a 70-300 lens which is a few years old now but its awesome.Either one I think you will be happy with thou.
Go with the newer t3i, I started with a t1i and recently moved to a Canon 7D. One of the best things you can do is buy a really nice lens, it will make the difference. I am guessing the kit lens is F4 - F5.6 which will be slow for shooting surf unless the stars align, meaning the light is near perfect.
I started with the 30d due to it being an older model you can find steals on it on craigslist and it has a faster fps compared to the rebel series. Recently upgraded to the 7d. The lens I used and still use is 70-200 f/4 I think I paid 375 on craigslist, its a little on the short side if its breaking far out but I have used this lens more than any of my others, picture quality is great.
Not sure what your budget is, but a Canon 7D (even 2nd hand) is a great body for not a whole lot of money. The motor drive is fairly fast, the AF is reasonably accurate and the image processor is good. If your shooting from the beach you will need a the longest telephoto lens you can afford. Generally 400 mm is the minimum. With the newer camera bodies you can crank up the ISO to compensate for the slower aperture lenses. I shoot at ISO 400 all the time without any resolution issues.
hey guys anyone have any segestions for a new lens for surf shots? canon mount..im lookin at a 300mm f4 L (used) but was wondering if anyone had any ideas.. my budget is about $850-900
that would be a good lens length to start out with, for most of jerseys breaks you can find ways to get relatively close to the surfer so you wont need anything longer, only exception to this is shooting the beachbreaks on a big swell
