good point. But what are the other costs associated with this?

    blanks
    glass
    resin
    overhead
    labor
    fins

are you looking for silent investors?

I have seen these machines in action, they had a few at the fibrecraft facility when it was Seasoned Surfboards. There WILL be a lot of hidden cost with operation, maintenance, and supplies. No to mention the space and electricity required to run it. Do you know 400 people looking for pop-outs? Expect to pay for a machine of this type 3-4 times again in its lifetime. Dont take it from me, im no engineer...;)

I concur with Lee on this one. Your bottom line will be in the red for a while with this idea. The up-keep alone on this thing will really boost your overhead. Take it from me, I'm kind of an accountant. :)

I was partially kidding - i wish i had the balls to start my own company.
I was just curious what the cost for a machine is, i was kinda suprised, $65k seems really cheap. I know there are alot of other cost - fixed and variable, but what business doesnt.

You've got the ambition, just need a leaner plan. You could do a lot more with 65k, than buy something that will only depreciate.

Why buy that? You could get a used CC machine for way less. If your interested PM me. I won't be back in the states till Monday tho.

not to put a damper on your dreams but 2/3 of businesses fail in the first 7 years, so odds are it wouldn't work. and even after that you hardly have the first mover advantage so finding an area in the market to capitalize would be slim to none. i have often thought of/dreamed of starting my own shaping business, but for the most part the market is already full of reputable shapers and unless you have an innovative product to introduce, it wouldn't really work too great

    BOard Design

Well if you need someone to design and draw for you let me know. I do CAD work for a living and I can take photos of any board and as long as know the dimensions (need a good photo) I can scale the board up or down and draw the outline. I give these to drawings to my shaper. I can convert my drawing into DXF files which is the file type most CNC machines use. Anyway need help with the design aspect let me know.

instead of being your own shaper, you should hook up with local shapers to increase their own output by shaping their models. You won't have to worry about glassing. You just copy their shapes and deliver to their factories. You get a piece of the pie. It wont pay for itself for a long time, but i think its a better buisness model than all inclusive shaper/glasser ect.. CI uses a machine dont they?
