2nd. Bell's Two Hearted Ale is the best (normal) IPA out there. Bear Republic Racer 5 and Deschutes Fresh Squeezed are my go to standard IPAs in CA. Sierra Nevada's Hoptimum is an awesome in your face Imperial IPA that's on the affordable side.
he drinks a whiskey drink. he drinks a vodka drink. he drinks a lager drink. he drinks a cider drink. he sings the songs that remind him of the good times. he sings the songs that remind him of the better times.
Great critique on the IPA double barrel. I am a fan of IPA's as well and have not tried all that you have listed but, I personally am partial to Alaskan IPA. Maybe it's because I am caught up in the ambiance while halibut fishing there but, it goes down real well. Give it a try.
Bell's 2-Hearted 16oz cans are a favorite, for sure. Lately, I have been drinking a lot of Sweetwater IPA. So good and cheap. I also drink the locals like COAST Hopart IPA and Westbrook IPA. Sam Adams Rebel is a decent one that is widely distributed. Also, New Belgium Rampant and Ranger, as well as Sierra Nevada Torpedo get sent all over the country. If you get Ballast Point, try a Sculpin. It was one of my favorite IPAs for a long time.
I am picturing the beer being served, a disgusted look at the bartender, standing up and walking out, not a word said. LOL
I was pleasantly surprised as well when I tried Sam Adams rebel a few months ago. Not a bad beer. Ton of great beers have been listed so far. I'm currently enjoying sierra nevada's Flipside seasonal ipa. It's pretty good (at least good enough that I went out and bought a case worth after trying one). Dogfishhead 60 is a longtime favorite, as is a local brewer's black IPA (O'conners Great Dismal). Love me some black ipa's...
Dogfish Head 60 min IPA. That's my stock beer. $8 a six pack at certain locations. Perfect blend of hops, bitter, sweet, citrus(?), deliciousness and alcohol content. Another good one is Sculpin IPA...But that's not for beginners. I'm sure there are lots and lots that are individually bottled and super expensive, but that's just plain stupid buying single beers that cost like 5 dollars. If you in Asbury Park, check our Brickwall Tavern. They got a decent selection of craft IPAs on tap.
Sam adams is crap Ipa gets served above normal beer temp... Think 42 degrees or else it looses hop profile Stone doesnt hold up! Thats like comparing blacks to delmarva! If u are aware enuff to find stone enjoy by ipa you drink it quickly... Hoppy beers are to be drank fresh... Its not suppose to hold up over time. Come on rookies. Vermont and alaska ipa have that aged cask barrel malty taste... Like 60 minute... They are all only ok West coast ipas are really the standard... Laganitas lil sumptin sumptin now thats good stuff... Yes its reallt defined as wheat ale but drinks like the tastiest ipa ever... Lagunitas sucks is also top notch Anyone here ever even drink pliny, heady... Heck even bells hop slam? Anyone? Terrapin aint my favorite but they make a ipa called hi 5 in orange cans... Great drink and easy to get away with at beach looks like orange soda can Cant hate on any southern tier either... Best east coast brewery?
Brickwall good but pricey, jester in freehold even better, best is maloneys on main matawan 180 craft beers on tap and there lines clean themselves overnight Disneyland for beer... Stone world bistro escondido san diego
Sorry I have to call you out on this one..... IPA's, at least the modern American variety, derive their distinctive flavor and aroma from the essential oils of the hop plant. These compounds are extremely volatile and will be the first thing to deteriorate, leaving you with a generally unpleasant drinking experience. That being said, rule number one has nothing to do with glassware and everything to do with freshness. If you are in the store looking to buy an IPA, check the bottle for a packaged on or best by date. Much more than a month after the packaged on date, and anything that is on or beyond the best by date should be considered no fit for consumption. Do some research to determine which breweries do this (and how the do it ex. Lagunitas uses the julian calendar for their packaged on dates) and reward their good behavior by buying their beers. To address your glassware issue, any beer style that is enjoyed for its robust aromatic and flavor qualities (most of them) should be enjoyed in a glass with a bowled bottom and a pulled in opening where you drink from. This shape collects the volatile compounds in the beer and channels them directly into your sensory mechanisms (nose and mouth...duh). Additionally, chilling a glass will do nothing but dull the taste buds and introduce whatever compounds are in the frozen liquid adhering to the glass. The myth of ice cold beer being better than a slightly warmer temp (55ish degrees) comes down to the fact that cold will numb your palette and allow lesser quality beverages to seem more refreshing. I understand the sentiment of some high end beer glassware seeming pretentious, but trust me its use is by design.
That's some funny ****. The last three breweries around here I've been to use those glasses now. I don't like them as much as a regular pint glass either. I think you need to cuff your pant legs and wear thick framed glasses (that you don't need) in order to drink out of them.
Who's had a buffalo rib eye washed down with an IPA on tap from Stone Brewery after surfing Trestles all day?..... "This guy." ....That's who.
Jester, never heard of it. Now I gotta go check it out. Yes, Brickwall is trouble, muy caro and one of the bartendresses there is a hot little piece. I magically ran up a $250 bar tab there one night. I was like Bukowski up in that joint..."to all my friennnnnnds!"
Dude Heady Topper for the win! My roommate snagged a couple of 4 packs when he was working a trade show in Burlington last week. He had to wait in line at a convenience store until the delivery guy arrived. That's the only way. I'm not convinced it's the very best IPA in the world. However, I can't think of one that I've tried that's better...Irregahdless, they definitely have the marketing side of things down. $15 for a four pack of pounders. Yikes!
