waves in wrightsville is chest to head, with water 83 degrees. sorry homies. time to batten down the hatches though. hurricane/evacuation party anyone?
just got out from DP this morning in wrightsville. solid head high sets. somewhat closing out, but i basically surfed alone. super fun way to deliver irene!!!!
Monmouth county, NJ is tiny but there's fun little barreling coming in right now. If there's a good spot for high tide get on it, and let me kno where it is
Tomorrow morning in VB it's gonna be going off early. I'm getting my William Wallace zinka warpaint on. Stay safe everybody. This situation is not looking good.
Avalon is under mandatory evacuation with Stone Harbor & Sea Isle to most likely follow. Latest report says the eye will pass over Cape May. Dying for some waves but not at this cost.
I agree that South Jersey is not looking good. Outside of damage due to winds and rain, the storm surge is a big issue here with the coastal bay systems. Don't be a hero if you live in a flood prone area.
Phase 3 evac. begins tonight at midnight in OCMD...only emergency personnel allowed on island...everyone else must be out by 5pm Fri.
With respect to whoever writes that blog...their OCMD writeup is full of hyperbole that they know nothing about. "Surge exceeding 6 feet would inundate most of the city, with most wooden structures in downtown Ocean City destroyed." Are these guys predicting MOST of the older homes in OCMD (which are all wooden structures) will be destroyed? No credibility in that site if they cant edit out that kind of non sense. This storm is bad enough and serious enough without meteorologists who deal in straight up hype
Just checked it up and down Manasquan thru Ocean Grove.. too high to surf anywhere..but there is definally swell. Maybe 7 pm for an hour it'll be decent.
I just came in. Atlantic City was FUN!! Only about thigh or so but finally some ass behind the waves. Here's to hoping tomorrow morn is even better.
i just got back also. it's definitely building, but not quite there yet. some of the sets were pretty decent size, but with the south wind here everything is a mess for right now. i'm hoping to surf tomorrow morning then we'll see what happens after that
I don't think its much of a chance to be fun or rideable until monday here on delmarva. It's to close to have a long stretch of swell invite some calm offshore winds or calm winds period. To short of a window. And beach closings town evacuations blah blah blah.
does anyone know when they will end the evacuation/hurricane watch? if they aren't letting people near the beach after it passes a cleanup session may not even be an option
Really interesting article on APP.com, for anyone trying to beast it out and stay close to the shore you might wana read this. http://www.app.com/article/20110825/NJNEWS/308250070/Rebounding-surge-can-deadly-tsunami-like
thanks for sharing that, i have to say that some of the stories sound a little fishy though. . . two boys riding a boardwalk like a raft then jumping off on a dune? i'm sure there's truth in there but these do seem to be aural accounts from the 1930'3-40's. fun to read though.
Sitting dry in Philly right now after evacuating. Hopefully the bridge to LBI will open up on Monday so I don't have to miss any more surf. Also, I'm hoping that my parents still have a house after this weekend. Wouldn't want them to be homeless and have to move in with me...
