Is the WSL still interesting?

A few yrs ago, I watched every event via livestream on my computer. No FB ever, still no FB, ever.

The ASP live was new (to me) and novel I enjoyed watching my favorites, Fanning, Slater, Parko, Patacchia.

Pretty quickly got tired of seeing guys getting boned by the judges. Those judges must have hated Freddy P; he got screwed in almost every event.

In the beginning years the announcers were funny & knowledgeable. Now? They really know their shiiiite but they hype the holy jeebus out of everything, every wave big small good or slop. Corporate floggers. And the ads...watching the same Jeep ad broadcast 489 times over the course of several hours of surfing is nutso-de-facto.

The WSL streaming 'quality' from the events in Oz is horrendous, even with high speed connectivity.

I do tune in now to the Pipe event, a couple of others - - with the sound turned down.

 

I thought JJF was the next to the throne, why hasn't he dominated yet? I think Barry answered your 2nd question.

 

1. Its the older we get the better we were...at least that is my personal view.
2. you are correct on the Meth, it has gotten really bad out there.

 

JJF is listed as Hawaiian not American. That's why I asked the second question.

 

Ah, forgot about that. Still thought he was supposed to take over once Kelly faded, that hasn't really happened. It seems the Brazzos are taking over. Do they test for PED's? I bet they all piss dirty, just like in MMA.

 

When Gabriel was running up the beach after scoring the 10, I was thinking about this. He is cut, and solid like truck. You can see it in his turns, especially backside the power he has...don't they test those guys?

 

Can you see if Medina has any back acne on the webcasts??

Guys, there's a lot of performance enhancing drugs out there that don't give you acne vulgaris, sugar tits or horse rage . Lots.

There's no fkn way they test in pro surfing, none of them would ever believe that PED's might possibly exist in a sport like surfing.

And, as mentioned previously, the people running the show could neither organize nor afford a legitimate testing program.

Besides, it's obvious that the WSL is pushing the Bazillions in order to gain international cred. How else can you explain the league's tolerance of the endless shenanigans

JJF is the most well rounded for sure. His first season or two or whatever he admits he didn't have the competitive drive. Then he started taking competitions serious and won a world title two years in a row. This year i think he got injured.

Not saying he's at Kelly's level but that's pretty impressive and as close to taking over as anyone else. Who else had won titles consecutively? It's a small list. And that's not taking into account his eddie win. Multiple triple crown wins.

Not saying he completly took over. But he's gotten pretty close. Point being your comment makes it sound like he hasn't done much, when in fact he had accomplished a ton and is still young. With that being said i don't know if anyone will get to Kelly's level. But JJF is most certainly the closest thing

 

No I never said he didn’t accomplish much, he has, but I seem to hear more about Medina than anybody. JJF has to be the better surfer, right? When he goes on a run and defends the title several times then you can say he has taken over.

 

It seems, with Medina and JJ winning 4 of last 5 that “they” are the ones to beat. JJ did have an injury this past year which all but took him out. I think those two battle in the coming years.

Another thing I was thinking about is I hope they decide it in waves like Chopes, cloud break, and pipe. not, wave pools!

They absolutely test for ped’s. Ask neco paradatz... doesn’t mean guys aren’t finding ways around it

 

I really dig his style. I bet he wins a world title in the next three years.

 

+1000000 on your comment regarding commentary. It is awful. Interviews with surfers are worse than a dental appointment.
