btw sharc***: I just put you on ignore. So you go and do the same and let's see how it goes. I'm trying to do the best thing for everyone here. We are not worth each other's time and certainly our crap isn't worth the time of the rest of the board.

Bros, please do me a solid and don't reply with quote to his posts. Or just keep doing it and screw what I say because you don't own me schitt.

Holy crapppps it's EMass Jr.!!!!! Love that he's firing back on day two. btw Mike, your post count is in the mid 50's. Keep it up brah! Just realize that privatized institutions aren't the only breeding grounds for word wizards bro. I'm public school all the way including college. Take your ISL/NESCAC debt and think of all the surf/hunting trips you could be going on indefinitely!!!!

This is duel with Slashdog is quite timely as it will take over the vapid abyss that was my exchanges with sharc***

Yo, MIS...get a roll-away bed for Mike in Slashdog's room on the cruise!!! Ratings booster!!!

I'm usually not like this, but one thing I hate more than over compensating tough guys, is flat out blind ignorance. I didn't expect to slip on it less than 72 hours posting in this place. Never ceases to amaze me. "Look, a new guy with questions, let's make generalizations and see if my buddy's have a laugh at someone's expense for asking a question".

He's on a surf forum, wanted to surf, asking surf questions. Quick, someone erect the gallows!

Brah, save yourself a ton of hours and agony and don't put any stock into what just about anyone on here says. Really, don't. If it informs/amuses you enough to stick around here for a while then you'll see in time who's worth getting to know and learning from, who's simply worth bantering with (Internet equiv of a drinking buddy), and who you should just outright ignore. I was in your same situation a year ago - hungry to learn, well-intentioned, full of stoke. I saw back then what I've seen countless other times in my life, that very few crowds welcome the vocal entrance of a newcomer.

The search tab will really teach you everything. I'll occasionally just browse old treads even when not looking for anything in particular because I've only been on here just over a year and there's many years of info prior to that. Jump in here and there and BS about funny stuff but all the answers you could possibly look for (prompted by your outside research and ongoing experience in surfing) have already been answered months ago over and over.

Do you bro and go for yours. If you plan to be an extrovert on here from the onset be prepared for a sustained response from some guys like you've already received. Look at the good answers you've got - can you ask for more upon walking into a new community? Focus on that and those people and only those and you'll save yourself so much time and energy.

Hit the search tab and look for posts from the following: LBCrew, zach619, zaGaffer, mitchell, Erock, njsurfer42, kidrock and many, many others (no disrespek to any bros I failed to mention!!!). Bro, there are 250+ years of surfing experience between those 7 guys alone and it's not in mushy/flat crap we get up here in MA. There is a lot of riff raff and bullcrap here on a daily basis but in between that the level of surfing knowledge and experience present on this forum is HUMBLING.

Lastly, you won't get this surfing thing quickly. Not in the grand scheme of things from floor to ceiling development. If you want to surf anything at all like "good surfers" you see in a video that don't even have names, you have to dedicate LOTS of time, energy, and financial support toward your efforts. I've gone on over a dozen trips in the last year and logged over 100 sessions and I'm just now getting to the point where I really know anything about surfing and can maneuver at all. That progress has not come without 2-4 hours a day (sometimes 8) on a surfskate made by Carver that is the skateboard equivalent of surfing on land. Honestly bro, without that I don't even know how cats learn to surf well and I've got that much more props for anyone who has.

I've traveled a few paths in athletic endeavors that have gone very, very far. Still, surfing has taken so much more than those other disciplines have. It's definitely worth it all in the end though.

Where did you pick up that board? If it's going to help, I'll buy it yesterday.

For the record, I'm going to glue my eyes to those dudes posts. Thanks for the info man!

They don't sell them at too many stores and you're definitely more likely to find one at a surf shop than a pure skate shop. CR actually has a decent array of them. They're also available online for relatively the same prices, so buy it at CR. Get the 34" Green Room.

Not only will it help your surfing, your Carver riding will probably take on a life of its own. You'll need a stoke alternative for when the summer comes (almost here) and there's maybe waves sometimes in RI and none in MA til September.

There's a whole 16-page tread on Carvers here on the front page and a few other Carver treads worth searching for. Go to CR. Get the Green Room. You'll be thankful.

Holy ****, this Sharkhunter emass battle is almost as annoying as sharkhunter vs wasteland or sharkhunter vs yankee, or sharkhunter vs leety, or zach. The only thing missing is shark hunter bolding quotes and glorifying his ability to over analyze.

Michael, just go surf. Don't spend too much time over thinking it, the ocean is a very simple place, so simple even a sharkhunter can do it.

Exactly bro. I knew how annoying the debate was. That's why I gave it the ole Youth In Asia and admitted its worthlessness then put that dude on ignore.

Where do you ride it? The roads around me look like Bratislava on a good day. I think there are more potholes than pavement.

That's the plan. I didn't realize I picked the worst time of the year to get into it though. Sort of sucks. Pray for storms I suppose?

wrong, you picked the best time of the year. When its big and cold its nothing for a beginner to be messing with Small waves=figuring out balance/technique and etiquette You will not and should not be paddling out when its big. Your not only a danger to yourself, but everyone around you. Then again you gotta give a shot sometime, better off doing it once you got some experience

Bro, more like "where don't I ride it?" You learn quickly to sniff out the smoother, non-granular pave than is street swept and free of rocks and other debris that will introduce you to asphalt intimately. Parking lots are often great and the bigger the better. Out west I will skate as much as I surf if not more when the swell isn't cranking. But back here on the EC, you need to hunt places out in order to ride. The hungry get fed though and you also have skate parks everywhere which can be even better than the street when you're ready for them.

The worst time to get into surfing is never. Last spring was nonstop swell and tripled my stoke at the onset. I was still stoked even before the swell cranked. This has been a good spring until recently but last year we had no relent until July. Then it got flattttttt. Which is why you need a Carver.

What spurred on the desire to surf anyway bro?

Mike, print this out and put it on your wall to read 5x a day. The less you know, the less that scares you, typically. That is not a good thing for your survival. Not sure how much time you've spent in the ocean but it's definitely the most dangerous earthly force by far. Take it from someone who's had too many close calls already. The good thing about most dudes on here is that they know this and will be kind enough to remind you of it in more ways than one.

emass, not sure what you do for a living, or how old you might be, but have you ever considered a job as a North East Carver rep.

I meet with sales reps all the time for various compaines, and never have met any a stoked as you on a particular brand

Always wanted to get into it. Needed a lifestyle change. Too much stress. Something about surfing just makes sense to me. It's brutally honest I suppose. The only variable is weather and you. No excuses, no silver lining, no sugar coating. Maybe I'm an idealist, guess I'm looking for something with more substance than organized sports or something you need to buy a ticket to enjoy.

I've been trying like hell to simplify things. The world is a crazy place. Gotta have a place where I can really unplug. Used to be able to do it on the mountain, now it's one giant advertisement. Guns were fun, but it started getting absurd $$ wise. I want to be able to get my kicks without my weekend costing more than a car payment (check out prices on 5.56 ammo right now, 1000rd count). Ammo goes quick. Car resto is almost done too.

So yeah, I need something else, something less temporary and less subject to the day in day out of the world.
