i know what you mean about not wanting to leave once you started surfing. I have passed on several opportunities to move up with my employer because my family would have to leave the beach, and that ain't happening if I can help it. Funny how your priorities change. As far as co-workers not going out too, count your blessings. Dam Neck is one of the few places you can paddle out in VB without having 100 of your new best friends aching to share waves with you. I surf with a couple of guys from work, and we love to surf on base during good swells. There's almost never anyone out, and the vibe in the lineup there is always super mellow.
wow im surprised nobody went surfing yesterday.in the early afternoon waves were pumping right after the thunderstorms.forecast said 1 ft and it was head high barrels
^^^ no, no, no Cuthbert....first of all, if it's flat again this jinx is on you.....second of all, just invite your friends not the entire world.....third, the bars at AI are all effed up, so you're better off, much better off, in Belmar.
^I'm not tellin the whole world, I'm tellin about 8 people.... The amount of land that NJ-VA is is extensive. 8 people spread out of NJ-VA is like 0.1 person a beach. Just tryin to look out for others so they don't miss out on some after winter swells. It's really easy to share a few waves with other surfers. As for Belmar.... What? Why would I drive 200 miles when I have a perfectly fine beach 20 miles away? With the amount of stoke that Belmar gets on these forums, I can kinda tell its popular. (Crowded?) But I really don't know much about it.
Why Belmar.....? Take a knee, kid, and you might learn something about a legend. A Jerz Legend. There's a radical dude up there. Not many people have actually seen him, because he operates like a stealth fighter... but....when he is spotted, he's nearly always pier-shotting. One of the best. He can guide you to the finest 23' barrels in The Jerz. Drives a bad-arse Beemer & his gf's hair doesn't move even in the daily gale force offshores. Maybe you should travel north, kid; could be well worth your time just to experience.....the njshredmachine.
hawkheart, look at how many read this thread, and its monday and you are claiming saturday. wake up and smell the probability decay
Wait... Whats this about the bars at Assateague? @makeitstop Hm. Guess your right. I didn't realize hundreds of people were reading this. Just trying to help. ...I've used Swellinfo for 3 years and they're usually pretty good when it comes to forecasting.
Went out for a conditioning paddle yesterday at lunch time off Dam Neck. Was the only one out there again. Managed to get a fair workout and a sunburned face in the hour I was out. It was low tide. Paddled down the beach a ways and noticed a lot of turbulence. The small waves coming in were running into those going back out. Hopped off the board, and found it was less than thigh high. Felt a bit foolish. Paddled out further and found another sandbar. Actually caught a few short rides, but probably looked like a kid in surf camp. Found myself "skipping" - forwards and sideways....Oh no, must be a "latent" skipper. Actually it was more like just just bouncing along and hoping not to step on a ray. Weather was great though. Air temp mid-80s. 4/3 suit was too warm. Thinking of shifting to shorty soon. Newspaper says VB water temp is 68, but it was more like low 60-62 where I was. I know, it's a pretty weak report. But with this flat spell, it's all I got. But lots of gals in bikinis. Too bad I can't see clearly without my glasses.
When did that happen? Is it just completely ruined? When was the last time you went? I haven't gone in months.
It's never flat in Myrtle Beach fools! 24 ft Southern Juice all day everyday! Cause 23 ft is just for puss!es!
Not going to say much until it's over, but considering the recent flatness, the next 4 days will be surfable at least down here.
