Jax beach has an old bad reputation, so snooty people puttin' on airs are all like, we are staying in ponte vedra. It is like middle of nowhere soulless bs. I wouldn't even stop there, let alone live there if you paid me to. I couldn't live like that, no siree. I couldn't do the things the way those people do.
JAX Beach (including Neptune and Atlantic) is the best place to live in Jacksonville, the rest of the town is meh at best. The waves can get good, but the better spots are frequently crowded. If you want to live somewhere for the surf and you're essentially retired, I would head further south. We surf in 4/3 with boots, hoods and gloves in December through February. Major change in climate just a few hours south of here.
Thank you. Hatteras is like that. People from avon and up often have colder surf than buxton, and then even colder still from nags head on up.
^This. always made the trek to Space Coast worthy in the winter, knowing it's 10 degrees warmer down there. Jax temps will be the same as Carolina temps during the winter
Maybe SE NC not north of cape Hatteras. There are a couple of beaches in north Florida (not Jax) that I really like visiting. One place in particular that reminds me of Pea Island. I would have no desire retiring in Jax proper.
