    Was out today in southern ME and saw some moon jellyfish in the water (and I got a sting or two during the day paddling). Does anybody know anything about jellyfish? I know they exist, and guess it must be ignorant of me to think that they didn't exist here, but I've never come across them before.

    Is it normal that they are in ME? And, what time of year would they typically show up? June seems awfully early for jellyfish in the far northeast. To me it signifies many things, and after a rough winter weath-wise, most importantly it says what acorns in late July/early August do (except the inverse)...

    Spread shaving creaming the sting and then scrape it off with a credit card. Supposedly works like a charm. That is if you get stung. We get alot down here. Definitely seasonal though. We have had horrible sea weed lately.

    Jellies are really painful sometimes. I carry a bottle of vinegar all the time in the car. Pour it on and don't rinse with water. It calms down the sting good. Get a shell or something to scrape off the tentacle if it's still on you. And in Maine I assume you have protection for most of your body with a long wetsuit. I wear a longjane 1 mm in summer to protect from radiation, and it helps with the jellies too.

    I also smear on Safe Sea anti jelly fish sting lotion on exposed skin. Does it work? I think so, my buddies all got stings and I didn't when I used it. Some poor guy duck dived and came up under a bunch of jellies and had horrible welts all over his face and chest.

    a lesser known entity is the peanut butterfish. they can often be found with the jellies;
    generally between two slices of bread.
