Wow, this thread has surely mutated. Like I said, each place has it's pros and cons. San Diego is very crowded. Don't get me wrong. I just surfed 4 foot Avalanche this evening and I wanted to grab a machine gun and just spray the 400 people out... But I went at 6:00, when all the nine to fivers get out. It was my fault. It happens... But this conversation is about winter. And there are plenty of bigger winter days here, where there is a marine layer, and its grey out, and the reefs are firing. I get them by myself all the time. Not every time. Most of the time, the prime spot that is grabbing the swell best is the most crowded... But I have a reef, that isn't even on surf maps. Everyone in OB knows it, but if you aren't from around here and you look out at it, you would NEVER paddle out there unless you saw other guys out. So while everyone is down at Newbreak and Chasm and Abs, I hit my spot further north. It may not be as perfect, but its a reef with three super funs sections on it. I get that spot all winter long with only a few people out. Sometimes Alone. And believe me, some of the bigger days on a reef spot, you don't always want to be alone. Sometimes its nice, but I will that my reef with 3 or 4 guys any day. Like I said, it has 3 long as$ peaks that everyone can pimp out.. It's the best to share those kind of days with a few strangers. There are plenty of waves to go around... Thats all I'm saying.. In August, in OCMD or anywhere in jersey, its super crowded too. I mean, I've seen 48th street in OC MD Crowded in February... It happens... So like I said before, the more fair question for everyone would be... Would you rather spend FALL, the Hurricane season for both coast in A) San Diego, CA B) Jersey Shore, NJ We would all rather be in Costa Rica, but that wasn't the question... P.S. I don't think many guys from Jersey would want to travel on a surf trip to California. There are better places international to go for sure. And except for not needing a visa, and maybe cheaper travel, I wouldn't come to CA for a trip either. There are 10 countires I can name right now I would rather be in than SD... But, that wasn't the question.
Zach, I would rather be anywhere but the east coast when it comes to surf. If we are talking East Coast of Oz then that is a different story.
Exactly my point Kelly Slater is here in Southern California for a Pro competition. IM still waiting on the Hurley Pro at Wildwood or whatever your surf beaches are. Seriously end of discussion if there is ever a Pro Comp in Jersey then you can get back on and compare the two states i guess. There is ONE stop on the WCT 2009 in the United states and it is in Southern CAlifornia. IM a Clown who has surfed everyday for a week...who is laughing now?
I agree with you but this year I think that the search is someplace in North America but that might be Canada. We shall see. EDIT - Never mind they must have changed it. It says Peniche-Portugal. I remember in the begining of the year it had North America listed. O well...
