i went out surfin this am at 7:00 and found myself watching rays jump 10 an 20 feet away from me. big ones too. a friend told me that could mean sharks (they jump to get away), and that could be them eating. do i continue to surf by myself no one else in sight. ie: its nothin to worry about. also was very foggy and overcast. are there times when u might not wanna surf. say high percentages of bad things happening? I dont know much about salt water and the creatures. grew up in Sconny. thx 4 ne advice, (and screw you if ya forum bash)
my surmise ive deduced from internet articles,(behavior, mannerisms, mating, species) you tube videos, asking fishermen and own acct. that rays jump for a number of reasons, primarly (sp)? to escape a predator. there was a death on the gulf (attributed to a ray jumping out of the water and hitting a lady on the neck who was sun bathing on a boat) as recent as 2008. I suppose one takes their own calculated risk when entering the wilds of the water.
