Well I've been waiting for this. Erock , Gaff and DSUP all have raved bout the Coil for months. Just scored a Megamind 5'8 x 22.5 x 2.375 with the serious bottom vee in near mint condition. Boom. Read Gaff's tread a while back and this one sounds much like it. So stoked to cut loose on this beauty in Rhodey on Weds thanks to TS BelMar. Soooo stoked.
Congrats Emass, hopefully you click with that board, most love it, from what I understand that one requires a lot of rider input, so that carver should pay off
Wow that thing is huge. Congrats tho I've wanted to try a coil but there aren't any dealers near me and I like to hold a board before I buy it.
DSUP - hoping so too. It's not like I'm used to standing there and gliding on any of the land/watercraft I utilize so that's good news. My tactile recognition of the board under me is at an all-time high. Southside - yeah, it's pretty wide but very thin for that width. I've got a 5'6 just as wide and way thicker, as well as two short fishes so I know what high vol feels like on an SB. High hopes for this stick as I imagine the vee hardly giving me a corky or bogged down feeling. Will keep you bros posted. I've been getting takeoffs on nothing waves lately on boards with lessor equal volume so I'm optimistic for lots of rides. What do you suggest for fin choice to handle the looseness? I've been liking larger fins lately. This is a quad while I've been all about the thruster as of late. The way the fin boxes are installed is unique also. These sticks are definitely something different. All comments from those who've got Coil experience or other applicable knowledge are welcome. Glad to be down to 5'8 lengths now. That's what I was working towards as it offers the best transfer from my skating.
You'll love it. Is it a concave-deck one? Kick or grid tech? I have 3 Coils right now and am about to order a 4th. I think I've had a 4 or 5 others that have rotated through the quiver before as well. Amazing boards 5-9 x 19.5 x 2.32 .92 cu ft Wide Widerboard grid tech 5-6 x 19.25 x 2.32 .91 cu ft Chopstick kick tech 6-2 x 19.25 x 2.32 .97 cu ft Widerboard round tail
Semi-hijacking your post... Selling a Coil Bloop(?). Pretty sure its the only one there is. Worked with Mike to base this off the Sweet Potato. In flawless condition. 5-8 x 22 1/2 x 2 3/4 1.28ft3 volume. Comes with MR-TFX fins. has deeeeep double concave out the back. $425. With regards to the Megamind, I used 4 PC5's in it. Mike & Kirk recommend 4 equal sized fins in it. I just sold it as I didnt click with it and liked the "Bloop" better. Just got my first couple boards in Kick Tech... I was amazed how light they were. Cant wait to get on the Springfish.
Extra speed = extra shred! Go ballistic as possible and get out of control, then dial it back. That way you will know what you can do on it. Feel the WaPow factor kick in on your off the lips. Crush it. Be the lip. Kill the lip! Blow the fu8king lip to little pieces and make it call you Daddy!
Lurker bro: taste it. I know you just want pics of a dope board and I'm pleased to supply. However, I just had a nonstop weekend finished with a 6hr drive through traffic and peaceful rest sounds a lot better to me than being some Instagram nerd. So simmah down now.
Nice score! In my opinion, the coil construction is second to none. Give a report after you've got some sessions on it.
What kind of surf you planning on riding her in? 1-6ft? Probably more like 1-4 for better results right? I hear she can get a bit squirly when it gets big, Got any pics yet?
Just got her wet for the first time tonight for an hour. You bros weren't kidding about these being a whole different stick. I was barely in 1-2ft (more like 1.5 tops) and short period at non-optimal tide so my data collection was limited for sure. Just got off the water so let me collect thoughts and feed a bit and I'll respond more. I will say this thing responds better than anything I've been on yet. When I throw an arm on a pump or turn the board's nose feels like it's connected to my arm. Wednesday in Rhodey's gonna be a blast.
