Anyone every heard of a "Kane" surfboard? I ran across one on CL and it appears to be in pretty good shape. Just never heard of the brand. Supposedly shaped by Rick Kane. See attached photo and logo. This is not KG brand. Any ideas? Thx
This is a guess but Rick Kane was the name of the fictional surfer in North Shore, so maybe that is what this board is going for.
Kane boards are made from generic blanks, that's what the dude at the local shop told me. something about companies importing cheap foam blanks then putting on logos and glass.
I spoke with someone from Michael Dolsey and they said that "Kane" is one of their older logos. So I guess it is from Norfolk. Probably a cheaper board they put out. Thanks for the info.
You found this on CL with the post of $200? I saw that post and saw that it was shaped by Rick Kane and first thing I thought of was North Shore. I would pick it up if it was shaped by Turtle or Chandler though; but what does an Arizona kid know about shaping bra. Damn now I want to relive the 80s by watching North Shore.... and go rock some neon shorts and body paint like Laird
Isn't Michael Dolsey a company that buys pre-shaped Chinese blanks and puts their logo on them? When I first started surfing I rented MDs a few times and ended up breaking two of them. I'd avoid this board if I were you. Anything made by Dolsey is going to be almost 100% crap. I doubt the guy even surfs. He seems to be some businessman who re-brands imported Chinese junk, his company also sells guitars for crying out loud
I've seen a number of MD boards and SUPs around VB. Checked their website, and the business is Norfolk based, like you said. Yeah, they also sell electric guitars. Odd. "Joesurfur", in Norfolk and OBX, may be doing something similar - importing boards from Asia and putting their logo on them. They have ongoing ads on Hampton Roads Craigs List.
Yeah those Joesurfur boards look like crap and are priced ridiculously low (for surfboards). Watch out for anything that seems too good to be true
I know a few people who bought boards from them on the craigslist post (short boards around 200 and long boards around 300 sups around 600). They enjoyed the boards for the kids; but nothing other then maybe the weekend stop at the beach and just playing around in the water. General rule of thumb is don't buy boards on craigslist until the summer season is over. Mid winter is a great time to pick up boards from people who moved away or realized they are never going back. Get a few and wait for summer time to double the price and post on craigslist.. Can we get this post back on track talking about Rick Kane... smalltown boy from Arizona who learned in a wave pool only to invade North Shore and attempt to steal not just the waves but the Hawaiian women....
