tried it last week in knee high shorebreak. from what i was able to tell, harder to manuever the board, more stability and even more speed down the line
I'm interested to know more about this too. I love both of my quads, and am curious to see if this is worth playing with
was it a basic quad set-up on a 5-box board that he stuck that little thing in the center box,or something different and planned?
from what i understand, it was just his standard quad set up w/ the 5th micro fin stuck in there for the hell of it, just to see what would happen.
See if your local shop has a demo, doing it yourself is the best way to figure it out. May be a board review on youtube
fin can found here: http://www.mdsurfstore.com/product/von-sol-the-nubster-fin-mini-stabilizer-fin haven't tried one myself as i currently own no boards w/ that option, but 5 fin boards have long been a valid design in various configurations: campbell bros. bonzer, greg griffen's mod fish, rusty c-5 are just the first 3 that spring to mind. i have an old fcs "shark tooth" fin that looks like it's a tad bigger than this one, but i've long thought it might be interesting to try in a 5 box board...
All i have to do is drywall and insulate my shaping room, and im gonna start chasing the perfect set up.
thanks,42,i knew you'd have something for me with ci,just wondering if anyone has strong opinion based on knowledge/experience with the tiny center 'fin.' had a couple 5 fin bonzers, but this is obviously totally different, a quad with a tiny center 'fin.' do you know if ci is saying anything about it?
all ci has had to say about the subject is that kelly really, really liked it. the fin actually came from later's friend, sean mattison (another fla. boy) of mattison surf designs, so ci has nothing to do w/ it, really. apparently sean & slater were surfing together before the contest & sean was raving about this little fin he'd been using & said kelly should try one out in his quads. so sean shipped him one & he liked it.
