Kelly has priority, he see's Kolohe paddle for a wave, then Kelly paddles for it, backs off at the last second, and both guys are forced to pull back from the wave. Slater somehow keeps priority, that was some sh!t. Bush League kind of stuff like that is a fruitless way to win heats. Who's gonna tell me that "winning is winning? I don't wanna hear it.
Kolohe got robbed. That was bad. Makes their world surf league look bad....it was quite obvious Kolohe was the better surfer that heat. It was embarrassing.
Was watching that heat in my office with the sound turned off. 'Another important meeting' Absolutely thought Andino won that heat. Didn't stick around for the final scores, that's how sure I was. And I even have Slater on my WSL team for this event. So I step away, then return & go back on the WSL site to check my standings & I'm like wtf why haven't they removed Slater from the list of active surfers in this event. And then I go to the list of who is surfing in the next heats.....incredulous. Andino got boned pretty badly there. These judges are trying to write the story lines instead of letting competition happen. And of course none of the surfers can say anything or they really get screwed down the road. Bring back the days of Andy storming the judge's tower in a rage after getting hosed on scores.
That wouldn't have been the deciding wave. However, andino's last wave was better than slaters and he should have gotten the w.
Honestly it seemed like a close heat to me. The "priority" wave was weak and barely broke and was inconsequential. Kelly's board looks flawless on his transitional turns. I'm a fan of Andino and think it was just a close heat...no real surprise it went to Kelly. I don't think they should have called Priority change over that wave.
it was close imo. i really thought andino's last wave was weak, but he did what he could do with it. I thought their best waves were equal...but thats judging...pretty subjective and there will always be differences in interpretation. slater has his hands full next. I hope he pulls it off.
