Eh..... good point.... but how would anyone know that your real key is hiding underneath the mat of your trunk or inside your smelly shoe ?
An aquapac device is one of the best things going. http://www.ems.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3668698 Started using one several years ago because all my rental cars were showing up with electronic chip and remote openers embedded in the key assembly. I also turns out to be an easy way to stash a driver's license, credit card, some cash, etc., when you are not that keen leaving these things in the vehicle.
Someone stole my room key when I was in La Jolla a couple of weeks back. I left the key inside my hat and wife beater on the beach- from a distance it looked like there was just a hat and beater there on the sand. I put it in front of the lifeguard tower too because I figured a bunch of people would be around there, so if they saw anything fishy they'd call the guy out. Unfortunately for me, someone DID go through my stuff and stole the room key. found my hat and beater separated by a good 10 yards or so and no room key in sight. I couldn't get into the hotel because you need your room key to open the gate and my parents had gone out to lunch. luckily i didn't bring my phone or sunglasses because they would have definitely taken that too! so basically, i just had to sit on the beach in La Jolla on a beautiful 70 degree day, looking at girls, so it didnt turn out too too bad. Just for safety, I got the guy at the front desk (super cool guy) to reprogram our room key so that whoever had the key couldn't get into the hotel and check all the rooms until he found our room and stole all my sh*t. Yea it sucked and was inconvenient, but it sucks more that we have 2 feet of snow on the ground yet we still go in the ocean and torture our manhood to the point where they hide. Gosh, what I would give to be in San Diego right this freaking instant. I am sick and tired of the cold and all this snow. Fu*k the east coast. I'm going west no matter what. So that's my story about getting a key stolen, and the resulting attitude I have now formed about the east coast!! hahaha
This is the 'key' here... Just don't keep a bunch of electronics and junk in your car which attract attention. My doors don't lock so I'm used to it. I've had my truck rummaged before but it's like maps and cassette tapes, old shoes and water bottles in there haha who wants that? If you're one of the people who has a heaps of garbage in your car... you could toss your keys into an old Taco Bell soda cup or something,,, create a dummy disguise
my valet key isn't electronic like my main key so i put that in my key pocket....but my son makes wallets out of duct tape..seriously...and made me a keyholder like the one above by taping in the ziplock from a ziplock bag...it works... proud dad
I never lock my car up , If someone wants to get in your vehical bad enough they will break a window. Once a buddy of mine had all his guages and other personal stuf take out of his car while he was away for the day. He left it LOCKED in his driveway. Someone broke the d/s window to get in. I rather just be out what little stuff I take with me than having my stuff stolen and driving how with broke window and having to pay to get it all replaced
It's like they tell you when you go to Puerto or somewhere similiar... Don't leave any valuables in the car, leave the windows down and the doors unlocked but hide the key somewhere away from the car (sand, tree, bushes, etc.) They said if you try to lock it up, you will end up w/ broken windows even if nothing is in there, they will break in just to check it out... We left everything open and didn't leave anything in the car at all and didn't have any probs.
