What came first pride or dream? I think it was pride. I always forget though. In my head it was all the same

I think the reason why he didn't want UFC was because Pride had contracts with Fedor and he could not, and they would not let him break any them, so he had his hands tied if memory serves me correct, and honestly all the talent was over in Pride at the time. UFC didn't get big up until Griffin vs. Bonner back in 2005, I remember watching that fight fu(king brutal

One reason was because of his loyalty to M-1 Global, he wanted them to do a co-promotion with UFC but M-1 wasn’t big enough for the UFC to want to be associated with them I guess.

Yeah it was something like that, I guess all that stuff went down after UFC got bigger.

It's kinda sad. Pride and all those other organizations were big before UFC. MMA was a thing but you didn't have casual fans. If you were tuning in to watch the fights over in Japan you were in it deep! Then the UFC blew up, everyone became a expert, and these other organizations who had great fighters like fedor got brushed aside. M1 not being big enough to be associated with the UFC. Fedor was huge. Imagine if that co promotion did happen. It would of been epic. Much more so than floyd vs connor.

It's almost like the UFC monopolized the sport.

True. That’s business though. Bellator has done well building their roster with UFC cast offs. Now they are starting to get top tier talent in their prime. So it’s not a complete monopoly anymore. I think it’s good for business to have some competition.

For the record UFC 1 was in 1993, Pride was founded in 1997.

I just meant before the UFC blew up. The original UFC was a whole differnt thing then it became when it finally blew up.

I understood you, I was just stating the fact that they started their promotion first. They blew up when the Fertitta brothers bought the company and then got the TV contract with Spike TV, but I had been watching since the very beginning, long before all that. And we shouldn’t forget about some of the talented guys back then. Royce Gracie anybody? Lol

I watch them all though, MMA and boxing. I just love combat sports in general. Doesn’t matter what organization it is as long as the fighters have talent.

I was at a Judo seminar in the early 2000's hosted by the Gracies and Royce Gracie used me as a partner for a demonstration. Highlight of my years in martial arts. Super nice guy too. It was crazy to see how easily he could dominate even the best guys in our dojo. In a different stratosphere of skill.

You see the Crawford fight this weekend DP? That little dude packs a wallop in those gloves. Didn't see him knocking out Benavidez.

That’s awesome, i’d be honored to be a test dummy for Royce Gracie lol

Nah I missed the Crawford fight but caught some highlights. Dude looks solid!
