Another medical advice threde for youse: I'm not sure if I'm getting old or what, but two weeks ago I came in from a moderately long session and had the tops of my knees completely torn to shreds. I've been logging some solid board time the past few weeks so they've just repeatedly healed/re-opened. I've been dry since Sunday but plan on ripping them open again manana. Have any of you had this issue before? Maybe I'm getting lazy on my pop up and scraping my knee, need to put on a fresh coat of sand-free wax or start wearing kneepads and a helmet out in the lineup. The jury is still out. I've checked my leg threadde and it's properly tied and all the kinks have been ironed out so I know that can't be the issue...
Good use of the third leg... Knees aren't my problem... It's my big toes... after "surf season" and being bootless all summer my big toenails are worn right off from dragging my toes on pop ups. I would get some sand free wax for that knee problem.
Being popular with the fellas will do that to you Srsly though...sounds like your pop-uppe could use some work There's a 1x2" section on my right shin that gets devoid of hair if I get a sesh suite less...I think when I get tired I started dragging the right leg forward Suggestion - do more push ups and pull ups

Ordered something like this ^^ and it worked. They go below the knee.
I was waiting for the compression pant fad to hit the EC. All the runner dudes wear them on the board walk. It's lame. Bet you cokFish has a quiver of em!
+1. if you have a go-pro, mount it on the nose of your board pointed at yourself, and you you should be able to tell what your doing. Makes for some amusing footage too, but really only for yourself, it's a very unimpressive filming angle for anyone else to watch. I'm guessing your dragging your knee somehow on pop up, but that almost seems like it would be hard to do. Do you kick hard when paddling for a wave? I guess if your wax is real sandy, and you kick like a mofo you could be scraping your knees?? Kind of a weird one.
^ was out in only boardies the other day and I got some nasty chaf***e right at the base...still works though Put some aquaphor or diaper rashe med in that ish and call it good, mang
I get the arm pit rash most frequent from paddling. I slather down with some Vaseline and it's all good. I have actually had a rash on my inner thighs from sitting on the board.
Have the same problem popping up, sand in the wax for sure. Side note: at a beach party back in college, a guy pointed out to me that he thought he saw a lady friend giving a friendly bjay to another buddy of ours. While we're talking this over on the deck, how much he was drinking, moon reflection of the shapes, what it could've been etc., both of them are coming up the stairs back to the party. Louder than i ever head my buddy on the deck yelling out "SANDY KNEES!"
I'm not sure I'm ready to wear Lululemon in the lineup, but the sandpaper wax is coming off this afternoon and I'm putting on a fresh coat to see if that does the trick. It's possible that I'm dragging ONE knee when I pop up, but to have two nearly identical ones just doesn't add up in my small brain. Time to put my copious amounts of Vaseline to good use for a nobler cause, and lube on up.
How/what do you paddle? If it's a longbort I might guess you bend your knees (feet in the air) then straighten again repeatedly
