A SUP has better name...."twat yacht". Not originally from me; came from a guy who used to post on nesurf.com which now sucks as a forum site. Used to be ok when I posted on it a few years ago, but it got taken over by a californian loser. Ces't la vie....

The first time I saw one, it was Laird Hamilton. He picked up a wave breaking on the outside reef, at an ultra-secret spot, from a nice south swell, and cruised all the way in to the inside reef. I had to duckdive under him as a couple of strokes kept him on the backing-off wave until it reformed on the normal lineup.

I never thought much about SUP'ers in those days. I used to call them "Lairdlings" because there were 2-3 guys who would paddle out on logs with paddles, emulating Laird. They weren't as big, blonde, tan or buff. Laird was easy to recognize because he, no homo, looks like f-ing Zeus. Especially standing on a 12' airplane wing when you're sitting 3' out of the water.

Sup is fine if you know how to do it and show respect. The lineups where I see them, they do a pretty good job of self-regulating and aren't total wave hogs.

Tow-ins and especially hydrofoil tow-ins are totally ghey tho.

Also......this is the only questionable thing Slater has ever done in my eyes......could have done without this image.

This some metard-level shizz right there. I think if you can incorporate Roy and a boggieboarding cat you'd be contending for POTY.

Messed up my neck a couple weeks back so really couldn't do much paddling or pop up but had to get in the water for this past weekend's waves in SoJerz. So i hopped on the wife's 10'6 SUP. I am no Laird but competent so was a bit annoyed when a local "pro" dropped in on me. Another guy in the lineup remarked on it , it was so bad. He didn't make eye contact after when I was near but I wasn't going to push it. A little while later, he starts to do it again. I firmly told him not to drop in on me a second time and he pulled off. Afterwards i paddled by to inform him not to mistake me for the other SUP, who was a gumby. We had no other issues, although he did drop in on my nephew about 5 minutes after he showed up. As noted earlier, its not the board, its the rider.

That being said, anyone who tries to paddle a SUP directly out into the lineup should be abused since they are a menace if a set comes through while inside. Later on the weekend saw one SUPer cut the legs off another and the wife almost took out a surf school. Both were pretty darn funny.

Another advantage was a better view of the little sharks in the lineup without dangling my toes as bait ;) I made sure to keep everyone posted about their location and presence in the hope that someone would bail and clear some space

Ian Cairns you are a few years late bro!

Also forgot to mention in my intro thread that I don't lift weights at all but I do have a hot babe.
