Guess they'll have to move the middle oc surf cam I've gotten so used to looking at on surfassateague.com, to someother spot that will give us an idea of whats going on in the region.
An artificial reef would be too much of a solution to our problems. The goverment would rather waste billions of dollars (not to mention that its our money and we have no say) to put sand from a few miles in the ocean, onto to beach. I mean really, can they not see that ITS NOT WORKING???? Duh. These people need to educate themselves on the facts of the ocean and understand that moving around a bunch of sand is not going to stop the waves when the next nor'easter or hurricane comes through. We need something thats going to break up the swell before it gets to the shore, which will just so happen create awesome breaks as well. Spend the extra money now and save later. I would think that the gov't would be all about this but instead we are moving trillions of tiny grains of sand, which is so easy to move - my dog can do it, to protect our investments. Not to mention all of this resulting in a huge rise in spinal related injuries and deaths from the pumping of sand and creation of shorebreak onto all of our beaches. Whether we move it or not, mother nature is gonna do what she wants, why not create a more permanent solution, a year round tourist attraction, and get the year round youth more active? Oh right, big brother knows best.
Is surfassateague.com some kind of joke?? This fall during fall beach cleanup at Chincoteague we picked up dozens of tires used for holding sand in place in OC. Apparently the rubber tire artificial reef method didnt work too well. We also get alot of the sand form OC after they pump so I cant complain too much. One big N'Easter and the whole beach changes. Often to our advantage but not to our parking lot advantage. I guess every zone has its fight.
Sometimes you got to wonder? Thank goodness for Swellinfo. The main thing I like about Surfassa is the webcam array. Maybe it depends on how tall you are!! Ha ha!
It would seem like they just report the bouy info, and then probably have some sort of scripted/code that automatically spits out a description of the conditions. I doubt anybody is actually typing that crap in.
48th they pumped it before it did mess it up some and it has never been as good as it once was, but it did recover and will again, pumped sand likes to go back to where it came from, a couple nor-easters and the sandbars will be there again.
