So I was giving a kitesurfing lesson (for$$) at AI this afternoon and I didn't realize I needed a permit while on a National Park. The ranger came up to me and my students stated we were doing lessons. I was very cooperative but he still gave me a citation for 36 CFR 5.3 ---basically conducting business without a permit on a national park.

I have looked online. does anyone know if this is a misdemeanor or a civil infraction like a speeding/parking ticket?

How absurd it would be to be classified as a criminal for a simple lesson.

I think it could negatively affect your run for president later this year, Nick.

You said the magic word yourself. Citation, so yeah like a speeding or parking ticket probably. Its probably a fine. Does it have a fine amount or any info on the back about how to contest it? Might be worth just going to court if you can and its not too much hassle to travel wherever they do that for the feds, and try to explain yourself to get the penalty lowered. If it was a crime you'd have been arrested or at least booked.

it was 125. however I read even speeding in a NP is a class B misdemeanor whereas in most areas is a civil penalty with a fine and no criminal implications.

Could affect getting a permit in the future. Im actually surprised they allow it at all, in alot of NP's out west you can't commercially guide at all.

Yes it was a quote, nothing more. I don't attack people based on their occupation or any generalization on the interweb, that's just ridiculous. To Make a judgment on a group of people as a whole Is not my Style. Bummer about the citation. Good day Sirs.
