had a few fun surfs but nothing epic. any comments? honetly for all the hype this is been getting ill take a nice springtime wind swell and clean conditions any day. sorry to be negative but its true. maybe we are not getting it good here in the Northeast
Really? There have been fun waves for the last 5 days. Last night was perfection in Md. This morning was still good and this afternoon could be fun again with chest to head high waves. I would take this anyday over macking board breaking surf with a 20 minute paddle out.
If we had a better summer, this wouldn't seem so great. But considering the lack of solid swell in general (I know, we've had plenty of "fun" days, but few days worth remembering), I'm calling it great!
Found some head high gems in southern RI yesterday, after a couple hours in crumby conditions at another spot...I'm happy.
well sounds like everyone is getting it better than me. haha. good for ya all. heading out now again to look at a few spots.
I almost went straight home after my morning sesh which was a sloppy closeout fest, checked a few spots on the way and found what I was looking for...just poke around a little, you'll find something. Good luck.
It wasn't "all time" or "epic" but there were some sick waves in VB this week. Got some head high waves out on the log on tuesday, got pitted on my shortboard on wednesday, and I had a blast shredding up the sections on my fish yesterday morning. I ain't complaining.
i can't remember the last time i surfed 4 days in a row like this, so i'd say that's pretty great. as many have said, it certainly isn't "epic" or "all time" or "classic" or any of a thousand other adjectives surfers seem to carelessly throw around like confetti. the one thing i will describe this swell as is "fun".
6 straight days of surfing waves as small as thigh and as high as head, 80 degree water here in FL, felt like I went on a lil surf trip. Obviously nothing epic, but its been a while since its been surfable for this many straightdays.
i surfed so much my arms and legs hurt, ive got pit rash and my powertop has little holes in the armpits. warm water and not having to ride the longboard or fish... no complaints here
This past Sunday I was out catching 3-5ft glassy perfect waves for hours without any end in sight, and judging by the cams it hasn't let up, not one bit. While I was paddling back from catching a perfect left hander this guy tells me "Man, this is really challenging, i'm not catching much, how about you?" Reply: "I've been catching chest to head high lefts and rights for the last couple hours, it was better earlier, but it's still going strong". Random guy: "Yeah, I just think the tide is wrong or the wind isn't cooperating"......
yeah i dig. but go surf right now, east facers. just got back gotta go to work woulda stayed all day. OH sets
Your crazy.. This has been a great hurricane swell. And it's just getting better. How are you complaining?
Central NJ had clean and solid 5-7' surf late Wednesday and all day Thurs. Dunno where you were but we had a nice swell.
I hate when people talk up ****ty surf. Why can't you all be honest. At least here in SNC this swell has been terrible. Just long dumping lines. Maybe it is better in some spots but overall this swell has been the same big close out surf everyday. In my opinion the worse surfer you are the better your gonna think this surf is cause it has some size and some power. But overall this surf is very poor for any good surfer. I've heard some places have been fun like OBX, where it can hold the size but for the most part this swell was a big dissapointment. Oh, a buddy of mine proved my point today. He was like bro just got out and it was supper fun! Now he surfs about as much as your momma does, so right there I know he doesn't know what the hell he is talking about. Get it!
I caught it fun this morning here in NJ but overall I agree with the OP that these hurricane swells don't match up to a late fall/early spring south swell. Maybe a lot of people have had great seshes from Leslie and I don't doubt any one, including the posters on this thread, who said they have. But just as fishermen are known for telling fish tales that exxagerate the size of the fish they caught, I think a LOT of surfers tend to exaggerate how good the waves they just rode are. Many, many times I have stood on shore watching a crowd of surfers in a swell like this dropping in on total closeouts (and many not even taking off on anything at all) and then when they come out I ask the how it was and they rave about how great it is. I am not sure this applies to Leslie. The swell period has actually hovered around 10-12 seconds for the past few days so a lot of the sandbars seem to be handling it better than a lot previous hurricane swells. Before the wind came up this morning I was really surprised to see how well my fave sandbar was handling this swell.
