Jamaica - if you did not have a dish system (few could, I was fortunate), your information was extremely limited. BBC would show the same thing over and over again, and nothing else was worth watching, without a dish (nationalized media). American programming could take one decade or more to arrive upon the island, if at all. The link provides some insight, yet touches upon little. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamaica_Broadcasting_Corporation When this video series was announced to be arriving, all waited with much excitement, until they saw it. My Jamaican boyfriend (white boy, British descent) and his brothers threw a complete male fit in sheer disgust, as it began to play, because Batty Man was taboo (still is...they burn them). Manly-men, each of them, they threatened to bust the television, ran outside screaming so many things in shock, and once collected, they quickly returned and unplugged the television, hating the once loved artist with a passion, from that day forward in time (felt betrayed, fawned over her, before then). I must admit that it was extremely humorous, and so I share. EDIT: most everyone else had the same reaction, too!
