Just got a sugarloaf season pass. Plan on living out of my car skiing/surfing the northeast this winter. lift acces with frequent backcountry excursions. Possibly a trip out west or two. Been watching ski porn all day. Any skiers hurr?
you can get used to most anything. Just like getting used to a weird surfboard...and then it becomes your favorite. Some of the best snowboarders in the world ride unorthodox binding angles. Nicolas Muller rides only 0/18 deg in all terrain.
What size board are you riding? What's your current setup? My knees are kinda screwy, ended up pushing front and rear in a positive forward direction. Feels awkward at first, but it forces more weight onto your hips, relieves some pressure on the knees. You'll have to "start over" when it comes to rails and anything backside, but your knees might be thanking you longrun.
164 my knees feel great at 2 and 2 anything else and they are hurting. It was tricky to stop the toe drag but ive got it figured out. its the same spot I put them when I just stand normally.
It's weird first time out with it right? Total trip. Old school single sled feet forward carve style. Taking back to the 80s lol. First time on rails always gets you. Your body is pulling in the wrong damn direction! Hahaha..quickly superseded by an epic yardsale.
Its like riding a bike now but I remember feeling rusty back in the day when I didn't get as many days a year in. I love the speed and the feeling of the g's. When I surf after snowboarding a lot, not the takeoff but the act of riding the wave feels slow motion.
Easily my favorite east coast resort is Sugarbush. We hit Sunday River last year and I really liked that place too. The best place near me (North Carolina) is Snowshoe. The best place I've traveled to snowboard would be Tahoe and the east coast resort that I really want to hit but haven't been to would be Jay Peak. Here's a few snow porn pics from these resorts:
Man once I get a few more dorrars I'm gonna get into snowboarding again. None of you guys like Smuggler's Notch? I've only been up that far once but I loved it. Also, nice pics fellers.
Thanks! Out of any surfboard, snowboard, wakeboard, skateboard, etc... that has by far been the best board I've ever owned and maybe the best purchase of my life. I LOVE that thing!!!!! I've been checking out some of his newer model's but I'm having a hard time retiring that one.
if this doesn't get you hyped for the season idk what will. the shot at 1:46 is brilliant
Those guys are good no doubt but for me it's kinda like watching dudes just try airs all day while surfing. To get me fired up show me some guys laying into some turns on a powder day or hitting some natural terrain throwing up a big method air. I like to hit the park every now and again but generally just take me to the top. Living in North Carolina it's rare we get a good snow, let alone at the beach but a few years back we got a really solid snowfall which led to a really cool session out front that I'll never forget. We called it beachboarding, at the end of our street we have a steep and very long handicap access. We packed the snow down on the access ramp which transformed it into a nice speed section for a jump at the end. You could also push off the rails for more speed. Getting some nice little hits in front of the ocean was way cool and you could even get a couple turns in down the bigger steeper dunes. Thinking about that day always gets me amped.
i should've added that it obviously depends on your riding style, and i respect all riding styles. yew
thought i'd bump this thread too since i bumped the skate thread. anybody remember tyler flanagan? he was a 17-18 year old pro snowboarder who was on top of his game and had the whole world in his hands. xgames... dew tour... sick sponsors... ...yeah, he's 20 now and serving a four year sentence for domestic violence and a bunch of other stuff.
