For All the People except the ones who have worked very hard in their lives to contribute to jobs and the economy and who attained successful results financially. Socialism will not prevail in this election. I would be ok with taxing the super wealthy due to their ability to evade taxes via loopholes but don't punish the upper middle class for earning their keep with more gov't handouts to those who sit on their ass complaining about the wealthy (not saying you Chic...sounds like you work hard). And no, I am not saying don't help the ones that can't help themselves.

What do ya'll think about the flat tax? I think it would help revenues but hurt the lower class. Not sure it's the solution.

This country is already struggling...can you imagine socialism....I can't.

I guess if they are paying no taxes now then they have to pay the flat tax it has a negative effect on someone making 20k (proportionately)...unless they are some how phased out????

Yes. I guess. I would rather see the lower class working versus not and receive gov't assistance because they make more to not work...taxes on 20k income would exacerbate the problem...I think, not sure. More concerned with the problems associated with the handouts than taxing someone making $20k who is at least trying to contribute to society. Tough call though.

can agree with that. flat tax over a certain amt then?? BUT an amendment that says you cannot vote if you receive a certain amt of income from the government or work for the government.

I do like the sales tax idea because it taxes all the "under the table" income which to me would trump the effect on lower class. I only brought up the flat tax b/c it is actually being discussed in this cycle. Have not heard any one pumping up the sales tax...I am not totally plugged in to all the candidates views though.

How's Hillary's Drug Cost agenda she just laid out....crushing the biotech industry today.

The problem is that extremely wealthy people pay a smaller tax percentage because their overall tax amount is higher than the middle class. I never thought this was fair. Why should the wealthy only pay say 15% in tax on income while the middle class pays close to 30%. Everyone should pay the same percentage regardless of income. It's only fair regardless of the overall amount of tax. This always pissed me off. Also you have lower middle class who gets many tax breaks and also some don't pay hardly any tax. They keep more money and the middle class pays more tax. At the end of the day the lower middle class and middle class will take home the same amount regardless if they person with the middle class income worked his ass off, payed off student debt, furthered his education. Everyone should pay the same tax percentage regardless of income.

This would work, IMO. However, the top 5% would probably never let it happen. It would mean they would be paying way more taxes.

This is always a difficult discussion because so called "fair" and what is morally and ethically right may not be viewed as "fair". I have a problem with taxing someone who makes 20,000 or so at the same rate as some one who makes 20 million or so. Technically everybody paying the same rate may be fair but I would prefer a graduated rate.

The problem with a graduated flat tax is that now it isn't a flat tax. Take 10% off the the top of every dollar earned. 20k Is 2000 600K 60,000. I bet if it was implemented Flat Tax could be 5%.

tax reform is only half of the issue though. Spending need to be dramatically brought under control as well.
