Just saw "Life of Pi" last night - WOW! It's not perfect, but definitely the best movie I've seen in years...my eyes were glued to the screen.

It's not about surfing, but the majority of the story takes place on the ocean, so I felt it was relevant to this site. It's on HBO all week, so I highly recommend you watch it or go to a friends house who gets HBO.

I will say don't be fooled by the religious stuff at the beginning. It's really not a religious movie...in fact, it kinda makes light of all religions.

The ending was quite disturbing. I had to watch the last half hour again. We were pretty urbed up, and right before I fell asleep, it hit what I think happened. So I watched it the next morning. Yep, still disturbing. how old do you think Pi was. I was thinking 15-16.

yeah, watching that on weed would be ultra intense...especially watching the first time.

I don't know how old he was. I just really got into the whole isolation ocean scenes, all the fish (sharks) swimming around and think any water fan would dig the flick (excluding the fact it's a kick ass story). imo, it was really well crafted and very entertaining...and I was completely sober

I actually thought it was a let down. Didn't love it at all .
Very visually pleasing, but that's it.

If you like Life of Pi or just like disturbing, watch Requiem for a Dream. Same director. not Surf related at all but great film. You have to watch it sober... Or on Heroin...

This is weird...I just finished listening to the Life of Pi book on CD last week. I picked it out totally at random too. I'm psyched there's a film version. It's a fun story...the book's ending is not disturbing in any way. FYI - if you have a commute books on CD/mp3 are about the best thing ever.

I'm an idiot. I was thinking of the movie, Pi.

I read Life of Pi and saw the movie. I couldn't figure out where you guys were coming up with the Sharks and fish images... I've been watching too much Breaking Bad...
Still All Yaa'll should watch Requiem for a Dream

good question. I don't know if the movie translated that part of the book very well (why I said it wasn't perfect)...I'm guessing the book left less up to choice (didn't read it). Kid said he made up the second story, so I'll stick with that...interesting character switch idea, though.

I have read the book, but have not yet seen the film. The book was very interesting. I still haven't decided if the tiger is a metaphor and a part of Pi, or if it is a completely separate entity, or if it is intentionally ambiguous. The movie looks cool visually, I am just waiting for the right time to see it. Thanks for reminding me.

Good movie, especially on the boat with the tiger. I think it was much better than Argo, which received best picture. Though an interesting concept for a movie.

OK, no spoilers, "Here Comes the Boom", with Paul Blart. It was OK. the vomit scene was the best part. DAMN sorry I spoiled it.

Saw the movie when it was out in 3D. Eh.
Seemed more about smashing the viewer with techno-brilliant-color & slick effects, with one final twist in the 'plot,' that being the tiger as a metaphor for, well, you know if you saw it.

Weak plot, good special effects, very good filming, another Hollywood sugary sensory blast that will be forgotten quickly.

that's why I never go to 3D movies, anymore...I think it ruins them. I saw Avatar in 3D and swore I'd never wear those stupid glasses again. I saw Life of Pi on a nice big flat screen at home and it was better than going to the theater. Do I care if I ever see it again? No...but, as a water enthusiast, I'm glad I didn't miss it.

I didn't find the plot weak. It's direct...a ride across the ocean (kinda like surfing. Don't over analyze it). It fits the genre without being complicated to the point of alienating the majority of the audience. I hate going to a movie and either never really knowing what's going on or feel like I missed out on several important aspects or story lines. With those, I'd have to watch the movie 10 times (or read the book) to actually get it all...not gonna happen

Agree with you on the 3D glasses, not a fan. Luv the maxed out lounger recliner chairs that some theaters are going to now. Slumming in style, sweet.

Yeah... Its a great movie.. I have seen it twice. I really like the seen in the last when Lion save the boy. Means the movie has shown an ultimate relationship and bond between a Man and a Lion.
