Lifeguarding = Kooks....don't do it man

They're plenty of other jobs that will allow you to surf

i have never been a lifeguard but i have a friend that does lifeguard and he says its work. also you get a nice tan, meet some nice beach bunnies but same when you surf. finally you can surf before you start and after you finish lifeguarding.

I was thinking of giving it a shot this summer. Not bad money for sitting around and yelling at people. Just wish that they would bring back the bullhorns like the old days, I think it would be fun to hear me announce to everyone on the beach that the Touron by the rocks or in the rip, is getting ready to drown. So for the upteenth time get away/move away from that area please, for god sakes you dumb ass what the f is your problem, if you don't get out of the water and stay out I am going to beat you in the head with this bullhorn....you stupid fool from PA.

If you are not a stupid fool from PA, please disregard.

But really, you can imagine how dumb it gets I am sure, but it lets you stay in shape and the setting is not to bad, and all the other tasty things that may come as a result....

Life guarding is easy job. Not that I life guard, but I do work at the beach. Life guards say crew has it easy. Crew says badge checkers have it easy. Badge checkers say beach patrol has it easy. Beach patrol says life guarding is easy. Either way, every job related to the beach is easy.

That is, life guarding is easy when its not a storm brewin on the coast. If theres a rip and nasty currents, life guards have a tough job. I've seen days where they shut down 4 beachs, and put the guards from those 4 on one beach. The normal stand for the one beach, still on the stand, and the other 4 stands are in the water, constantly.

But how often is that during the summer? 5 days? Rest of the time they sit on the stand and eat. Get tan, swim when you get hot. Get nice clothes, Nice sweatshirts, sweatpants, windbreakers, trunks... you name it they'll get it. (free). As for surfing while you work, its very rare. On the break they do where I work.

I am a lifeguard at a water park so I don't really know about the beach. I am not old enough to be a guard at the beach but i did have to get a certification if open water lifeguarding in my course and it was not that hard to get certified. You get a tan and you get to just sit around.

i currently lifeguard at the beach. i will agree a majority of the time you are sitting around watching ALOT of dumb ppl ha. if you like to watch ppl def do it, but when its on its on. and it doesnt matter if a storm is close to shore and all it could be a couple 100 miles out in the atlantic so the rip will def open up. when its good you surf before work, bodysurf during work, and then surf some more after work. but like a said when its on your defing working havta have that endurance. but most surfers do. id def do it, and social life is a plus.

I'm thinking about doing beach crew this year. seems easy. you just pick up trash and stuff and can surf on breaks or after work. don't know much about guarding, but a few of my friends have been life guards and they said it was pretty fun.

i did it at a pool. Its alot easier, you make alott of money and dont really have to save people like at the beach. Best bet is to lifeguard at the pool by the beach

Absolutely...if you even consider it a job. haha! I did it last year and I got the best tan Ive had to date. Thinkin about doing it again this year, for the sheer simplicity of it. PLUS, cash pay, UNDER THE TABLE! cant go wrong.

Thought about being a guard this year, I really wanted to last year, I almost envied the fellas. But you have to be on top of your game, and you really cant leave the stand, in OCMD, I know several guards, you always gotta be jogging while you're on the beach. There's a lotta perks about it. Lifeguard ID gets you free public transportation.

And I picked up more trash doing the umbrella thing than I EVER saw a guard pick up.

Seems like a sweet job. I'm too lazy for all that tho. Man of leisure can't be doin that. Maybe in Brazil.

But the chicks man... DO IT!

Just watch out for them princesses.
