I take a smoke break about every other hour. figure 5 min each time, I'm blowing 20 min a day. and about 86 hours a year or 1.6 hours each week. I earn about 1.5 hours of vacation every week... ipso-facto... i shouldnt get any vacation time...
That's actually not that bad if that's all the time you take. These M F'ers disappear for 20 minutes at a time, some of them like to go every hour on the hour. I use to be a cig smoker years ago, so I get it, but some people just abuse it.
During or on a blackball beach how do you get a disobedient surfer out of the water if he chooses not to comply ? If a whistle and a wave of the arm doesn't work what's the next step?
Not a question, but I know we've taked in the past and you mentioned moving out west... I heard some guys talking in the lineup saying they make just under 30/hr being guards, plus potential for lots of OT.
do nj lifeguards know how much we hate them? or how easy it is to mock them? the definition of a true surfer in nj is we hate lifeguards. and we've never paid to go on our beach that only costs money 6 hours a day for 70 days but is totally free the other 18 hours a day and the other 295 days of the year when the beach badge checker and lifeguards all go back to where they came from. I've written songs about it. yeah, I figured you are just looking for a fight creating a lifeguard thread on a surf predictin' website. I see I had you all wrong. you have a sense of humor. the lifeguards here can't make it out and need us to save people for them when there is a swell. they have thousands of dollars worth of equipment but I swear always cancel the lifeguard tournament if it's over one foot. sorry I couldn't hold it in anymore. 1st year my company gave us nets which lead to penile head scabs. We then transitioned to stiff trunks. Now we have the stretchies.
Lifeguards who aren't new know everyone hates them. When you first start you think your cool and everyone loves you. Older you get you realize you are target #1 for hate. Well placed or not. It's not a big deal. Maybe go over and talk to them and you'll find out they are regular people like you. No offense but you don't seem very reasonable. Can't deal with unreasonable people no matter the situation. Especially one as insignificant as a beach. Mock away. The definition of a true NJ surfer is we hate lifeguards? Lol. Not that we surf all winter? Not that we work year round? Not that we surf making waves? It's that we hate lifeguards? Most true NJ surfers won't even question a lifeguard over summer scraps. Kook. I was a guard for many years growing up in Cape May. Back then there were very few guards who surfed... it was all "jocks." Not so much anymore around here. Seems like a lot of guards surf. My kid's been guarding for a few years now. He does it because he's good at it (swam competitively for about 10 years and is a natural in the water) and he enjoys the daily training routine. Makes decent coin, too, working for the NPS.
I was a rookie LOL. I did after the first week but the damage was already done. No boners for me. can't really boner whilst swimming.
