I was under the impression that the kid who got picked off up near the military base in Cali was on a surfboard. Could be wrong. Too lazy to google it. It's flat.

I cant say for 100% cause im not gonna google it either, but for the most part i cali, when a person dies from a shark attack its a swimmer or spongebob.

THe attacks last year in maui were all snorklers, and one kayak fisherman.

Dawn, I had a friend who lived like 5 houses down from there. I was there during Katrina and we were swimming off her dock at like 1:30 in the morning (thanks Capt'n Morgan). The next morning she tells us about that attack. LOL

Yeah, there have been numerous incidents in the last 10 years out in CA that surfers have had encounters. I.E. 3 foot wide bite marks and getting launched 10 feet in the air from an underneath attack, but aside from the broken board, the guy slapped back down in the water and swam in untouched.

I watched a video of a semi-pro kid surfing up in Central CA in the winter. His little brother was filming from the beach, and because his brother wasn't taking a wave, the camera wasn't rolling, but as soon as the kid started paddling in, his brother started rolling film and his brother came sprinting out of the water and the enter back end of his shortboard was bitten off. SO a whitey basically bit all the way up to where the guy was balanced on the center of the board. But miss his body by inches based on how he was sitting. The dude was obviously frantic afterwards....

But fingers crossed, most guy literally have their surfboard to thank. If they had been hanging off the board, their bodies would have been the target and not the boards...

Unfortunately, it wont always happen like that, I.E. Bethany Hamilton. Sometimes luck just does't go your way.

(accidentally tossed overboard, treading water awaiting rescue and WHAM!) The epitome of "having a bad day." Correction, a REAL bad day.

Small world huh, I've gotten in the ocean late at night after drinking way too much before too, such a dumb idea looking back but boy was it fun!
