I came across this insane short article on The Inertia, and wasn't sure if it was a joke while I was reading it. It's not. This river surfer dude is serious. LOL,WTF!!! Check it out here: http://www.theinertia.com/surf/one-...big-wave-world-tour-have-no-place-in-surfing/
I can see it now: The Typhoon Lagoon Invitational World Cup, "The Mickey" trophy, and a victory parade down Main Street with Justin Beiber M/C ing and Gabriel Medina as the 12 time champion.
The dude that wrote this doesn't realize that big waves are awesome... Trying to completely get rid of big/dangerous wave surfing competitions? What would eddie think about this I wonder? He would definately not go.
"What really matters is that the sport encourages young surfers to promote a healthy lifestyle based on prudent choices in all faucets of their lives." Faucets.
Ah, I meant to point out that awesome faucets/facets typo too, if it was even a typo. Maybe the dude really thinks it's faucets?
This guy is a retard. Pro surfing would clearly take a dive if this happened. This joker wants us to model Ronald Reagan and Rush Limbaugh. Most of the guys on tour are complaining about Brazil having bad waves...and since when is southern California safe from localism?
You're not a democrat, are you? That's just Medina crying extra loud, peruse. And it resonates. They meant in comparison to fvckin Boston.
River dude doesn't seem to understand that the pros surf these waves willingly. They thrive on it, they want it, and enjoy it. The ASP doesn't have a gun to their backs. The pros are turned off by mediocre waves, as we are turned off by watching them surf mediocre waves. The result is an uninspiring experience for the surfers, and spectators alike. When the surf blows, I don't watch. It looks like we may get a delayed round 2 start this evening at snapper. I hope it gets good!
I'd like to see a contest that requires everybody surf different boards, depending on conditions... a log, a single fin, a fish, a shortboard, an alaia... see who's the most progressive and stylish surfer on a range of equipment. That would be interesting. I'd watch that...
I was trying to figure out if they ever allow surfing there anymore? The only info I could find was about that contest and some dude that used to teach surfing there in the 80's.......anybody know more? They were saying the wave pool could produce 3 to 5ft waves......all the pics that I saw were crumbling and knee high at best........using allentown measurements Belmar really would get 23 footers
