    Apparently, there's a "ironman" triathalon in Long Branch this upcoming Sunday. An associate at work has entered in this triatalon and is going to be swimming 400 meters in the ocean, biking, then running. Now, not only has he asked to borrow my wetsuit (HAHAHA) but he also doesn't really swim on the regular. He's been "training" for this swimming in a pool, but really hasn't had any time in the ocean.

    I told him I would keep my eye on the forecast for him. Even though it's most likely going to change from now to sunday, it looks like he might have a difficult time at this point. I don't know whether to warn him or laugh it off. Any ideas on what they will do if there's Head high chop out there??? Just figured I'd share this with you guys and see there's anyone entering this thing or has any suggestions......

    PS: Had a great little session last night, with just me and my bros in the lineup... Gotta love life after Labor Day!!!

    not an ironman

    just to clue you in on triathlon...

    sprint tri = 400-800 swim + 10-15 bike + 2-4 running

    olympic = .9 mile swim + 20-25 mile bike + 6.2 mile run

    half ironman = 1.4-1.7 mile swim + 56 mile bike + 13.1 mile run

    ironman = 2 - 2.5 mile swim + 112 mile bike + 26.2 mile run

    im thinking its a sprint tri...not an ironman!

    if the surf is big they usually cancel it and replace it with a shorter run. for the sprints sake, 2 miles would be adequate. i would say since it's an ocean triathlon in september they r thinking this COULD happen, they will and should go for the swim head hi and under. i say go for it. no need for a wetsuit. water is still warm enough. wetsuits r great in freshwater where the the water is less dense. tell him to raw dog it and dont waste time with the suit. trust me.

    Thanks For the input Oblove, that's exactly the type of info I was looking for. As you can see, I know nothing about these types of things and he's asking me for advice. I was a lifeguard for many years but never really got invoved in the competitions... I know the water but wouldn't know what is entailed when it comes to this type of event. Again, thanks for the feedback, it's going to be put to good use!

    they had it last year when it was around 6ft...wind was light west. The waves were really fun...anyway, i heard a lot of people didn't complete the swim portion because the surf was too big. They will only cancel the race if it's big and out of control. Agreed w/ oblove on the wetsuit...absolutely no need for it.

    He doesn't want to use a wetsuit with sleeves anyway. Way to restrictive when swimming freestyle. He will be overly tired if he does. Just trunk it!

    I suggest a banana hammock and a set of performance scooby doo water wings
