    Yup.

Same deal down here in Galveston. On weekends, the famous spot with the web cam has a herd of guys arms length apart bobbing on shredder boards. I go to the place 16 blocks away, that's almost exactly the same wave, and 99% of the time, I'm alone. It's also so close to my house, that I can walk if I want to.

On weekdays, mid days, I'll go to the famous spot and have that almost to myself.

Yeah man. Everyone else nailed it. Hell, I don't think the long beach area is even that good. I mean it deffinitly gets good, but really crowded. I surf further east and feel it's just as good if not better most of the time. And waaaay less crowded. One of the spots I surf Will get really really crowded on this one peak that's right on front of the parking lot. You walk 10 min down the beach, better wave in my opinion and most of the time, no one out.

Looks like this storm took a more appealing track. I'm kinda pissed. Was expecting this morning to have much stronger winds, woke up late and hungover to discover I should of been surfing this morning. Hopefully I can get on it before the wind picks up to that forecasted 30+

Shutting down the beaches. What an absolute joke. On a labor day weekend. I'm sure that's great for the businesses in the area. God I hate that nanny state mayor and I don't even live in that city. Didn't the last guy tell people what size soda they could have?

Up here, it's different as far as cams driving people to go certain spots. The most crowded spots don't even have cams. First beach has a clear static cam and 2nd beach has none, yet 2nd beach is WAAAY more crowded than first. Matunuck until recently had no cam, yet it is arguably one of the most crowded breaks in the state.

It's good to hear you guys have somewhere else to go other than long beach area. And montauk doesn't count. That's way to far! That would really suck if you had over 100 miles of coast with no good breaks.

Why the city not just post a sign saying No one will rescue you if you paddle out or wade into the ocean today. And then leave people alone.

It was a slightly overhead swell. If you can't handle lifeguarding that than you should find a new profession. There was NO hurricane making landfall with crazy conditions doh/toh wind driven mess ect. Hurricane was out in the ocean and it was sunny.

No reason to let people drown and say "no one will rescue you". Just restrict swimmers to waist deep. This is just an average swell in hawaii/california that happens all the time all summer long. I remember this story about a lifeguard getting fired because he went to save someone who was outside the flags. Horrific.

    Diblasio

"No one should assume that they can handle these kinds of riptides. If you go in the water, you are putting your life in danger,” de Blasio said at a briefing in the city’s Office of Emergency Management in downtown Brooklyn. “I say that to people going to the beaches, I say it to surfers: Don’t even think about it.”

“Do not even put your foot in the water on Sunday, and likely for several days thereafter,” de Blasio said.

Just tell them you are a professional.
Then tell them you'll pay the ticket with the cover shot pay.
    #shredmachinestyle

Who cares about Deblasio, who cares about democrats or all this whining bullsh*t. The thread is called "Long Island.' The surf was straight pumping today and it was fun as sh*t!

I had a hunch it would be a bust so I stayed up way too late. Saw the midnight forecast update- packed my gear, set the alarm.

The current was brutal; at one spot you could keep position, but once you drifted in/away, or if you got caught by a set .... see ya! My last time out, I was too spent to fight it, & drifted over a mile. Could have probably drifted all of Long Beach in an hour. The Beach Patrol/Cops made a few half-hearted attempts to clear the lineup.

Didn't surf too well but I did get one really solid right and some musher lefts... you had to work for it today. My shoulders are shot, my pits are chafed, and I've been waiting all day to de-turd. All worth it!

Sam Hammer & the Jersey pros showed up later and ripped a few. I saw a massive beastly Seagull that looked like he came straight from Plum Island. And plenty of babes of course.

Sorry for everyone who went to Rock- at least the subway surfers. Even then, you should have known what to expect with a NE wind! We checked it on the way home and some SUPers were surfing way, way out there.

    Hey up yonder.

I'm glad y'all are gettin some. It's been a wimpy summer. I tried lookin at several webcams to see the party, but they seemed awful busy. I couldn't get through.

I ain't never heard of 'em closin the ocean. I reckon there's a way around everything, and y'all prolly got that figgered out.

The few times it's gotten kinda hairy down here, I tried to go out near a few other guys. That's the only time I like company. If I'm alone, I (kinda) jokingly wear a bright orange t-shirt so I'm easier to find.

    Wishin y'all the best!
