If you've been tracking the forecasts, you've prob noticed that we are expecting some long period swells to start arriving this weekend...

Well, the outer hatteras buoy, just started to show some 17sec stuff, so the forecast timing looks to be accurate here...

    at least be accurate!

where are you getting your info?

The Outer Hatteras bouy (Station 41001 - 150 NM East of Cape HATTERAS)
is showing no such thing. In fact, the period has decreased from yesterday...

    current observation:
    5.6 feet at 7 seconds....NOT SEVENTEEN!

    Here ya go:

    http://ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=41001

scroll down to the bottom of the page and look at swell heights. Over the past few hours, some long period swells are showing. AND yes there is 17 second periods showing...

If you moused over the buoy maps right now you would not see the long period swell because the latest hourly summary doesn't have the long period swell, but if you go to the link above you will notice 3 the long period swell showing this morning. We will making buoy history graphs sometime in the near future.

not hating...when I see an increase in the dom/avg wave period, that's when i'll get a bit more excited....

I'm going out on a limb and guessing that 'oipaul' stands for 'oak island' or maybe
'ocean isle', but not 'oregon inlet'. If that's the case, enjoy your regular ankle to shin-high
swell down there, bud. You've already had your chest high day for the year...rip it up!

i was reporting that some long period swell was showing on the buoys... nothing more, nothing less.

2ft @ 17seconds is def. nothing to get excited about.

Buoys showing more long period energy this evening (saturday eve.).

Look for some fun SE ground swell to be on the rise Sunday into Monday

This is the wave period map (which is very useful for tracking ground swells from distant storms)
