Ok, been riding a 7' 6 fun board for about 9 years... Im tired of it and am looking for a short board. I surf Va. Beach. The Boards im interested in are the WRV Nugget and Rockfish, as well as the CI- Biscuit. I would believe WRV would be a better choice because of the local shapers around here compared to a California based board.. if thats even correct. Has anyone ridden these boards and can give any information? im 5'8 170. everyone sayz i should be surfing a 5'10 to 6'2... just seems like a big step down.. any help appreciated Thanks -Dave
definitely go local imo, it might take you a while to get used to but if you want to ride a shortboard then those sizes would be ideal, especially for a fish. talk to some local shops/shapers and ask for their opinion. it depends on your skill level as well, you could get a used board and see if that works because you definintely won't want to drop $500+ on a new board that you dont like or wont float you well. best of luck..
Deffinitly been check out Local CraigsList and stuff.. Don't know to many local surfers/ shapers who ride short boards. Thinking a 6'x20x2 3/4 or 3'' thick will deffinitly float me.. Thanks
im in the navy and never get a set time to paddle out... sorry. Hard to stick with something when your constantly gettin put on a boat / detachment for 8 months or soo.. I would think that sticking with something despite that face would make it were i wasn't a " kook " .... im also a father of 2 kids. So time has to be spent with that and im teaching my 4 year old on my fun board as well... yep, huuuge kook.
first dude, thank you for protecting our country, and ignore that conway kid, im pretty sure you have owned your funshape longer than he/she has been alive. back on topic though. it seems like your headed in the right direction with you dimensions in post #3. if you went with an epoxy board (floats a little better) you could even do something like 5'11 x 21 x 2 3/4 with a nice wide nose and a swallow tail. i would also suggest a "flatter" rocker and quad fin setup. the flat rocker and quad fins will catch you the smallest of east coast waves, and help you glide through flat sections. the disclaimer here though is that to go sub six feet you should be able to consistently catch waves on your 7'6. finally, definitely get a local shaper to make you a custom shape. as long as you and the shaper know exactly what you want you will not be disappointed. good luck
hey man, i might have something in your size and price range. i have a 6' x 19 1/2" x 2 1/4" Blair swallowtail. it was my step down board from a 9' longboard and has plenty of float for the east coast. id like to get around $200 for it but if youre interested make me an offer. heres a pic of it, send me a PM if youre interested and maybe we can work something out
RobG- Deffinitly a nice looking board. Were are you located and do you have any more pictures ? Thanks for your advice, everyone. Im deffinitly getting more info here then trying to look this stuff up on Google or talking to some 17 year old kid who works at a surfshop for a summer job..
@ headhigh; I was looking for a 6' board probably at the shortest. my 7'6 is epoxy and i would like to stick with that being how ive seen epoxy hold up to more abuse then glass boards that ive ridin from friends.
