Hey all, I'm looking for a new board and don't have any connections to shapers in NJ. Also whats the going rate for a local guy in NJ. In Florida and Cali I've been quoted right around $400 for a shortboard no tints or anything. So if any of you are local guys with experience and have a reasonable rate I'd love to talk and see what we can do!

I know Brian is the real deal. Start to finish. Quality work all the way. He also does the glassing and art for other shapers who don't glass.

IMG_0009.jpg rick malwitz. Malwitzsurfboards.com. Rick is great. Made me this asymmetric and a short board. Well, short for me. Plain custom $675 i think. But he is a graphic designer and his graphics are amazing.

Like lbcrew said, the guys at greenlight in squan are super nice and ready to make anybody a board. There's Charles mencel who makes every young rich kid in spring lake, and south moco for that matter, the board they get for Christmas. And there's Ben Peter who I talked to probably a little over a year ago who does 357 surfboards and is very professional and helpful. Hope any of those guys that came to my mind help

Greenlight is an excellent place to start. The owner is so cool you could spend all day just talking and hanging out!

Not sure what type of board your looking for- but if your looking for a bit of a more of the modern retro -ish shape board (not just a generic hpsb thruster) : Chris Chaize has been making some beautiful boards in the past years. Plus he really has a knack (in my option) at shaping a board that will surf well in all nj surf conditions. Plus he is a cool guy. But you might have to know him to get one of his boards.

Rozbern is a newer guy in Spring Lake or somewhere around there. I like his shapes and started seeing a bunch of his boards in the water this past summer. Looks like his prices start around $575 http://rozbernsurf.com/shop/

I know first hand about Davey's skill level as a designer, shaper, glasser, and color guy... all top quality. In terms of shaping design... nothing radical. Solid, straightforward, quality shapes. I haven't ridden any of his flex-engineered boards, so I can't comment on that.
