I'm looking for a small wave short board like a CI whip or flyer, maybe even a neck beard or something like a Lost sub scorcher. Basically something for those decent summer days but will still go well in chest high surf. I need a go-to board. lemme know if anyone's got anything lying around in the Jersey or NY area.
GO TO A LOCAL SHAPER!!!!! they will be able to shape you something for the small waves you would surf on average days since LOCAL shapers surf the same waves they know what would work.
I wasn't excluding locally shaped boards.. just giving an idea of the type of board i would want. Who would you recommend as a local shaper? Preferably between Belmar and Ocean City.
i dont live in those areas i live in NC but i had a Dumpster diver shape shaped for me recently and my shapper added alittle bit of width and a little bit more thickness for the small waves. so def go with something small but make sure the outline is full with a decent amount of foam and decently wide.
check this shape out, this board is amazing, it is currently my go to model board for waves from knee high to well overhead, it pivots so quickly that it takes a while to get used to and it generates ridiculous speed. oh, and the price is great to $375 new + $100 to ship it from Los Angeles http://hightideslowtides.com/daytripper.html#
This is a suggestion A local shaper could be your best bet. I was looking for that kind of board a few months ago and decided to get an AJW X-stump. The guy who shapes them is from Virginia Beach so he has a good idea as far as East Coast Waves. I live in Southern NC and the board is perfect for those decent waist to chest high days when its a little bit choppy and mushy.
ive had my merrick pod for 4 summers now and love it. i got it made with a 5 fin conv. ive ridden it on head high winter barrels. its tough, but it works. ive ridden it in less than knee high waves. its a great shape and not much too it. just a deep ass double concave with some vee in the tail. funnest board. rides barrels perfectly as a quad
I've seen guys having a blast on those mini-simmons shapes in the small stuff - I've mostly seen them ridden as twin fins, but you can find quad setups as well. I'm sure you could find a local shaper to set you up. Best of luck!
I have been surfing a 5'10" Byrne Peanut for a year and a half and it is my go to board for waves knee to head high depending on the hollowness of the day. Great with the 5 fin setup to switch between quad if its small or mushy and thruster if it gets bigger. A very fast and snappy board!
Hey dude I got this chick w/ DD's to help out and did hear of the flat spell? I heard swell next week too, you hear? Also, don't buy mainstream boards GOTO YOUR SHAPERRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what's with all these names of these boards? Soon there won't even be dimensions on the boards anymore... besides length maybe. Dumbster Diver, Neckbeard, Pod, Flyer, Dwart, Fart, Pocket Knife? What is going on?
