I've heard it's really important not to go too big on these, so I was wondering if anyone has any input on size. I'm 6'2" 172 lb w/ no wetsuit. I was thinking 5'11" board @29.8 liters. I want a board that surfs similar to shortboard in smaller to average conditions instead of a fat fish funshape so when it (rarely) gets bigger i'm not trying to readjust as much.

This would be my grovel to chest board, but I am hoping it would work in a wide variety of waves. In RI I surf everything from beach breaks to rock reefs and points and range from a 3/2 to a heavy 5/4 in the winter.

Tubeturkey, is that like tube steak? How many liters are you currently riding? Where is your "herro" threade?

Tube Turkey (noun): It's origins can be traced back to the great joe turpel while describing mason ho as a wild card in a contest.

Also, rode a 6'2" 32.3 liter firewire pyzel slab in Nica a few months back and it felt pretty good just a little big (bouncy and sat way above on waves). No wetsuit there though and waves had quite a bit more punch than new england.

Sounds like dropping to 29 liters may be all right, but during winter you might want a few more.

I wouldn't compare a Firewire to a Lost...different board techs (eps vs poly) and the volume gets thrown off, somehow.

Looks like 29 liters is the absolute lowest you might go...if not too low. When buying a Lost board, the Lost volume calculator is the best starting point (not recommendations from SI dudes you've never even met).
