Lunada Bay in Palos Verdes has been notorious for its extreme and encouraged localism for decades. Even guys who grew up surfing there, left and returned several years later have been treated as outsiders. I lived in Palos Verdes Peninsula/Rancho Palos Verdes during high school and my time at Harbor College (community college). Moved there in 1969 from Ohio when I was 13. I didn't surf then but spent a lot of time body surfing at Torrance and Hermosa beaches and skin diving at Malaga Cove (aka Haggartys or Rat Beach) and Flat Rock Point. Anyone who lived in PV was considered a "rich kid". There was a lot of animosity for anyone from "The Hill". Fights and damaged school buses after high school sporting events were not unheard of - especially if we were competing against LA schools like Inglewood and Morningside. There was also a racial element there. So there were bad feelings both ways.
me and a friend surfed there in the 80s. Went on a monday morning and no one else was out. Waves were chest high+ and good long rights. No hassles (never surfed Haggartys or Indicators, either).
wow that's the greatest thing I ever read.if I lived over there I would definitely go.sounds like they are planning one of the "lowers raid" kinda thing.never been there so cant say much on the matter, but if a bunch of rich kids are trying to act hard or whatever to protect their spot, and a bunch of other people are going to crash the party.lol sounds too good to be true.kind of sounds a lot like a few places down here.\ sounds like its going to be war.theres really not much u can do in a situation like that.the only possible outcome is people yelling at each other and maybe a fight or 2.if its a bunch of rich kids,i don't see them fighting much since most rich kids don't have to fight.if u showed up with a hundred bobby Martinez's then the richboys probly wouldn't come out and play anymore.regular surfers vs rich surfers lol.the only thing I see in the near future on this matter is going to be an online video of the carnage.cant wait to see it
now if this was a story in Australia, with guys trying to take over maroubra ,home of the bra boys and take their wave, there would be some heavy shyt goin down. this Is how u take over a surf spot.watchin this puts such a big smile on my face.all kooks welcome
I don't know if this can be pulled off...I mean, Lunada isn't exactly Lowers. More like "Killers" at Todos Santos when it's breaking properly. If the place is going off, most of the blow-in's will most likely be sitting on the shoulder (or in the impact zone). All the stories about the level of past violence, as well as the PD being in the local pockets, are true. This has been going on since the early 70's. Very similar to how Windansea used to be in the 70's (Chris O'Rourke) and 80's. Just because they're rich, you'd be foolish to believe that they won't nut up to protect what they feel is their entitlement. Next on the agenda: Seaside Point?
why would you even name that place kid. you are a d1ck seaside heights NJ is the worlds best secret, you should never talk about it goddammit the internet sucks
these raids are so stupid. The lowers one started this slew of stupidity that people feel the need to organize and stand up. I'm pretty sure it was a joke to begin with and some donkeys think its a good idea to "make a change." its 2014, **** has been crowded and complained about since the early 90's get over it, unless youre 12. At age 12 its okay to be an idiot.
Im going to go check it out on monday. might paddle out after i see what the situation is NJ has way more aggro violence than what I've experienced here so far lol, maybe ill be alright.
Sorry, didn't mean to blow up the secret point in Seaside Heights. Please disregard my earlier post, this place doesn't exist. I also don't want to give up the World's Best Secret Point in Belmar, the one that is consistently 23 feet. Find it on your own.
Interesting stuff, thanks fellers. Looks pretty heavy on the inside in that vid, lotta water moving. Interested to see how this all pans out. While I find it hard to empathize with a bunch of entitled rich kids, especially w/ the law on their side, I see how this can go wrong in a lot of ways. As far as the Lowers raid vid, it's too funny for me to hate those guys, but I have nothing vested there so I guess I'm indifferent.
If the walk down to the surf is as sketchy as Gaff says, maybe they should try something a little more passive-aggressive towards the locals like bombing them on the way down the trail with balloons filled with baby oil. Let the bastards slip-n-slide all the way down the cliff to "their" break. Or just leave books of matches everywhere. There's got to be at least one heathin little brat kid running around without a care in the world about the consequences of his type of fun. And we know how well CA and fire mixes. I kid...I kid. Don't play with matches kids.
didn't know it got like that, pretty heavy.funny reading the comments on the vids, guys claiming to be locals and are retarded.remindss me of mailubus most wanted when they ask b-rad what kind of hood is Malibu,n he like we have people tryin to come up on our private beaches.that place looks sick tho,im planning my next trip there
today's the day at Lunada Bay http://www.reddit.com/r/surfing/comments/1vmbnb/just_a_final_reminder_tomorrow_january_20th/
Out of solidarity with the Lunada Bay explorers club, there will be gatherings at Ruggles, R.I., Belmar, N.J., Duck Pier, N.C., and South Cocoa Beach, FL today as well. We tried to set one up on HHI but were were told by the mayor that National Guard troops will run us off.
Naw here on hhi we got a bunch everyday all day don't count us out bro, we are the next belmar you habe to see it to believe it.
