Couldn't have said it better. I tried the maca a couple years ago before I understood the power of a good whole food diet combined with intermittent fasting. I can honestly say there is no comparison. Don't waist your money on supplements. How do you think our ancestors were so strong and powerful without all the bs supplements we use today?

    My .02:
I don't think our ancestors had longer lifespans than we have now, but there was a variety of things, not diet related, that killed off many before they even reached old age. Look at the headstone dates in many of the old graveyards.

Just surviving demanded a whole lot more activity than it does now. There was no need (or time) then for gyms and "working out". Our ancestors didn't have desk jobs or spend a lot of time as slugs in front of a TV, computer screen, or behind a steering wheel.

Folks in the past certainly suffered from malnutrition problems: scurvy and rickets are examples. That may have increased as people got away from the agrarian way of life.

Supplements may be needed nowadays if one doesn't make the effort to eat properly or selectively. Lots of processed/convenience foods have little to no nutritional value and may actually be harmful due to added chemicals.

I think that much of the dietary supplements being touted nowadays are unnecessary and bogus. Many people want a quick fix, "a pill to solve their ills".

Nevertheless, I'll be giving this maca a try and will keep you posted - at least those who are interested. Even if the results are only gas and diarrhea.

The strong and the lucky survived and thrived into old age. And by lucky, I mean genetically gifted, and those who avoided and could fend off injury and illness.

Me? I would have been dead already back in the day. However, medical science has allowed me and a lot of other folks to overcome illness and injury. I credit a part of my health to supplements I take. If you can take something to give you an edge, do it.

We are evolving into a weird species that no longer relies physical prowess to make a living or find food. All we need is money and a means to make it. The Meek have inherited the Earth.

What kind of romanticized view of our ancestors do you have? They were smaller, weaker and less intelligent. Every generation has been bigger and stronger than the last. Do you have some evidence of an ancient race that I don't know about?

    our ancestors were into warfare.
as a species we're having a hard time shaking that one...
hope it doesn't turn into our achilles heel....

Yes. Yes we are. How does it feel to be hobnobbing with the uber elite of intellectual and philisophical prowess? Humbling, isn't it?

    I def agree with this.
    I havent tried maca myself.

This summer when i went to nica i was introduced to bee pollen that they put in a smoothie. Tastes pretty good for something that is considered a superfood. Its like 13 bucks at health food stores, everyone should try it!

I just got on the bee pollen. Good stuff. Trying out Royal jelly as well. Wouldn't say the pollen tastes good. It tastes like pollen would taste. If you mix it in with Greek yogurt or other things then you're stoked.

Thought about trying maca but don't want any negative side effects. Best "supplement" you should try is hemp oil (cold pressed), take a tbsp (or 2) a day. Only side effect the stuff has is needing to drink extra water because it will dehydrate you a little if you take it daily.
