Yes....very cool fall like setup with the low deepening east of New England but far enough south of Nova Scotia to kick back a NE medium period swell. Like one of those winter storms that takes the low track as it moves off the coast.
Pretty cool to catch some tropical juice (it was pretty damn good before storm last week) and then surf the same system as a “fall like low” the following week! Man, I hope the winds stay right!!!!
Yesterday I went for an ocean swim and ran into a buddy from New Smyrna Beach who lives down here now, Chris - a real soul surfer and a shredder, he fit right in with the crew from day one... he said he heard Kelly was sighted Tuesday at Ponce Inlet southside throwing pizza pie sprays a mile high. Both of us bemoaned the lack of real swell down here but we concurred this could be an epic El Nino winter/spring season down here in the dirty souff, and we marveled at the phenom we've known since gromhood from Cocoa Beach.
Think your correct Sir. I also think it may have gotten better on Friday - 3-4’ plus and decent period and winds. Should be killer at the beach.
Finally got back on the island this afternoon. At first glance it didn't look too bad but once we walked out on the beach the real damage started showing. This is all within a 3 or 4 block radius of our house. After seeing this we were EXTREMELY fortunate that our place held up as good as it did. After a quick drive through Surf City took a far worse beating than Topsail. We couldn't go into N Topsail because of the checkpoint at the county line but I'm curious as to they fared. May try to walk the dog down that way tomorrow. Even with all this destruction I'm happy to be home!
We are busy cleanin up Thanks to the folks who are down here helping us out Then to all the frickin looters .......fuq U
Nica, glad you and yours are OK. I hope the clean up and recovery goes well. We stay up the North end (Ships Watch Condos) when we are down that way. I have yet to see any pics or gotten any news of what happened up that end. The houses on the New River inlet must have really taken a beating.
Now they are saying coal ash from Duke Energy is spilling over. I wouldn't step foot in NC waters until at least November.
NICA, first off glad you and yours are ok. From those pics it looks like 30’ of coastline was washed away!? Are those pieces of foundation from this storm? And in the first pic, is that a septic drum? Man, what are you guys going to do? Staying with family? I will say this, from what I’ve heard you folks down there stick together so that’s a plus. That was a direct kick in the nuts.
And the flooding from Flo continues to get worse in areas like Georgetown, SC. https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/24/us/florence-georgetown-flooding-wxc/index.html
i was flying back from Austin and talked to a lady who lives on Front St in Georgetown. Recognized her and her kids on the way to Austin. When she found out i was a surfer, she immediately derailed our convo to "so whadya think i should do" - told her to pack her sht n sandbag it. hopefully she followed that advice, didn't think Georgetown was gonna escape that. I-95 going North still closed, n all kinds of stories about places like Georgetown just playing the waiting game - most of them moved their sht out tho
we had a lot of trees come down. one hit the house. our playroom/garage flooded. we were without power for 6 days. that was one of the most stressful events in my life.
