Happens all the time. It is life, and death. Get used to it.

a chick died around here from the same thing several months back. nothing you can do i suppose (freak accident?); simple dip in the ravr. it was a young chick, maybe high school or younger. sad story but i didn't see any steps proposed how to avoid that bacteria

yes this stuff happens. The town covering it up is a bigger issue to me. Instead of doing the hard work to clean up the town, they just suppress bad news.

"Clean the town"??? And how, pray tell, does one "clean the town" of commensal bacteria?? i.e....strep, staph, etc,?? btw...commensal bacteria are part of your normal bacteria that live on you and within you.....
Aerial spray?? Helicopters loaded with dis-infectant, napalm? Agent orange??
    Just curious......

speaking in a metaphor. This is a symptom of a larger issue in OC where the town is on a downward spiral. Rising violent crime and out of control petty crime. The town prefers do gloss over these with cheesy marketing and avoidance/suppression of bad press.

agree with Barry here, not an easy fix. when zika was all over the news, they did aerial sprays to prevent mosquito hatchings. mission accomplished sorta- no zika started here. bad news - spray killed a buncha bees. ppls love their honey - i like mine on a bagel. glad they didn't put a buncha chemicals in the ravr or sumtin stupid without thinking it all the way thru. it's not like this bacteria stuff is a simple fix; glad we didn't go overboard with it

downward spiral?...sure we have an occasional issue, just like any other place. I have been here for a very long time, transplant, but haven't seen a "downward spiral" in the last 20 years. Maybe Iam living in a bubble.

I would say it may be up, but way up? Unfortunatley, that may be true in most areas, up, but certainly not way up for many.

I know our year round population has risen exponentially in the last 30 years. Was living here in the 80's for several years until returning 20 years ago...it was a ghost town once the season was over in the 80's. I guess if you start packing more people in, both year rounders and tourists which also has risen since the early 80's, will increase of no gooders.

The vast majority of the violent crimes are downtown

this was widely reported in both the local and Baltimore media several weeks ago, after the man died.

a well known OCMD surfer lost his leg to necrotizing fasciitis about 15 years ago - still charges on a bodyboard in all kinds of conditions.

    It happens.

I've lived in the OC area, both in town and out, since the 1980s and wouldn't say crime has changed more than other rapidly growing resort communities. Its still a very safe place to live. Traffic is BY FAR the most dangerous aspect of living here.

Just looked up statistics, not sure how accurate they are, but they are actually down..not up or even way up

most likely OCPD has orders not to report.
