Wow. No disrespect intended, but I never understood accidental train deaths. Either the kid was walking on the train tracks with headphones or something, or maybe got stuck, I can't imagine 3 train deaths in such quick succession. What is going on in that town? Weird.

 

I wish the best for friends and family...


But seriously, how do you get hit by a train? I just don't understand...

 

Damn... this is going on on the east coast too? That sucks.
This has been going on big time in Southern California for some time now.

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- On the eve of a community teen suicide forum, students, parents and school officials were reeling Tuesday morning after a fourth Palo Alto high school student apparently stepped in front of a Caltrain commuter train in less than a year.




wallysurfr, while I agree with you that drugs and alcohol are not good for kids I dont think that is the issue. I had tons of friends growing up that partied in HS and we never had anybody off themselves. I think the issue is much much deeper than just "drugs and alcohol" that cause a trend like this.
There is something much deeper and darker going on here than just kids getting loaded. I say this because all the kids that have been stepping infront of these trains were sober.

They just believed they didn't have a good enough reason to live.

Wow. This has become a nation wide trend.
I thought it was just the kids out here doing this...

I agree with you about the glorifying of their deaths being the wrong thing to do. It does make that person who is losing all hope feel that it's okay to do this. That if things are looking bleak they can just end it and they will be a martyr in retrospect to their friends and family. Which is wrong and selfish. They need to understand the hurt and pain that this will cause their loved ones.

Oh, and not all people who don't believe in god or gods wanna off themselves, either. Not to hijack such a serious topic, but I'm an atheist as is my family and not one member has offed themselves yet. You know they just discovered our forebears underwent a previously unknown stage of evolution more than a million years before Lucy (I’m sure you are familiar with Lucy, right), the iconic early human ancestor specimen that walked the Earth 3.2 million years ago. C’mon Wally, please don’t tell me that you take your kids to the Kansas Museum of Science now, do ya?

However, we can agree that something needs to be done to save these kids. Move love, more attention, maybe spending time with them doing their homework, knowing who their friends are & where they are at. I personally think that it all started sliding downhill when it became necessary for both parents to work full time in order to support having a family. When we lost having a parent home we lost a lot.

 

I had Five deaths in the last few years at my HS in md. One girl, a cheerleader committed suicide in her room w a shot gun while her parents sat in the living room below and one Guy who i saw every day in the halls died in a drunk driving accident where a 15 year old was driving.


I also agree with what you guys said about drugs and alcohol which is a huge problem at my school. Almost like 40% of my grade has totaled their cars this year because they were stoned or drunk, its become almost a right of passage. One girl totaled her land rover and went to the hospital, but instead of everyone getting annoyed or changing their behavior they thought she was cool. (which pissed me off) And (in true pmac tradtion) her parents bought her a new mercades when she got out of the hospital. (the last part never fails to tic me off)

Unfortunatly it probably was. I know of a man who "accidentally" fell into a train station... they can only call it a suicide if the family consents to it. With the man im refering to, his family didnt consent so the news ran the story as if it were a tragic accident.

 

Yeah man. It’s (the kids killing themselves) something of a trend... it’s sad. Kids are losing hope.

Parents trying to best friends instead of parents. Parents being too busy to pay attention in their kids’ lives. Parents struggling to keep the roof over their kids and food on the plate and no longer are able to have one parent stay home full time to focus on the home and family.

I really feel for these kids.

Google it. You would be amazed by all the towns and cities out there that are dealing with this problem. It's sad when I think about how my generation was the ones who became known as the "latch key kids” and we turn around and do the same thing to our kids, then we wonder how f'd up everything is. It sucks that both my wife and I need to work full time in order to live a decent life (by no means extravagant) for our family. It is awesome that my wife is able to work from home and that because of services like WebEx online meetings I no longer have to be on the road 3 weeks a month meeting clients face to face to review routine matters. This allows me to be home on the weekends and after work. We try really hard to be there as much as possible for our kids. But it’s tough.

I think this plays the biggest part, the part time parents. Who do you blame, the parents for wanting a better life and who need to work 50 hours a week?

I think somewhere down the line we lost something…

 

Now now, don't bring marijuana in this! It's not a drug...


On another note, that 2nd part pisses me off too but you just have to let it all sort itself out and watch the bit*h fu*k up again and possibly be in a worse off condition.

 

Im not naming one thing or another, Im just saying that people are driving impared and getting killed. Its the parents and the kids fault. parents do care but they dont care in the right way.

Mofo has a point. I mean my mom dosent know/ care about most of what goes on in my life... she is too busy with her own. and i can see how for most kids that would tend to **** them up. I mean im lucky that im a workaholic and love school (yes im a nerd) cause i would prob be alot like them if i wasnt.

 

Okay, I can agree with you not naming one or the other, but I don't know anyone or have met anyone who uses marijuana that couldn't drive because of being impared from it. I just believe it's not on the levels of other drugs out there.

And it sucks, but I say if someone wants to off themselves then so be it. I agree it isn't fair to family and others, but if everything fails, why keep them in misery? It is surfing, the ocean, the water, the weather, simple things such as that, that keep me wanting to be alive and always think it's worth living for those simple things.

Becaues its a final solution to something that will be resolved in time! Its incredibly wrong to the family, some of my closest friends have lost parents to suicide and it really destroys a family. when you kill yourself you kill a part of everyone who ever loved you. Its awful. The girl I mentioned in the other post killed her self over something stupid like a boyfriend dumping her. Tell me how thats "justified"

I totally agree with you on that. It just seems like any decision is possibly the wrong one.

And by all means, I was never starting or wanting a fight. Things are much more fun and better being talked about and discussed rather than fighting.

 

agreed. I never was one for a fight... but now do you see what i mean when i say that its wrong to commit suicide? cause your earlier post suggests that you think its accecptable... or at least thats how i read it.

 

It's hard for me to say because I see it on both sides.

 

Its a sticky subject, and people really dont talk about it enough. I dont think anyone can really understand it tho untill it hits them really close to home like it did for my best friend. its a sticky sub, sad on all ends no matter what you beleive. When the girl died, alot of my teachers took the day to just talk about what we thought and beleived and that really helped me come to what i beleive.

its something i cant ever get. I dont know, maybe im weird but i look forward to the cr**** days just as much as the fun ones.
