Tho I never experienced but heard from some of my buds...a few people who live 30 minutes from a break consider they own the break while they harrass the guy who lives 5 minutes away from the break...and then on the flip side, a guy that lives just during the summer, gets on a guy who lives on the beach all year long...and the summer guy thinks he is a local and owns the break...just don't get it.

Just my opinion...Whether you live all year round, or a summer resident or traveling to the destination...all are created equal and not one person can make claim to any break...unless you have a deed to the property in question...never been a big proponent of localism...really hate it and I live right by the beach....I don't think it matters what kind of break...I would think its presence would be the same....whether a crappy or great break.

theres exceptions to everything...theres a submarine canyon right off the coats at blacks. Just a walk down from there is scripps pier which the beach there is nice and rolly, since its not directly fronting the canyon.

what are you rambling about nubhunter?, I said its just as likely perhaps more difficult to find, never said it didnt happen, I drove the whole coast over 2 months and once I passed Jalama I waited to surf unless I saw people, its dicey and lonely and cold and seal filled, ever been?

...and smacking me as a troll, uhh I guess. My god you suck. likely not a coincidence your posting increased after PJB left.

and Blacks isnt soft at all, obviously, there are exceptions to MOST generalities, but keep quoting wikipedia for your surf knowledge until you can convince mommy and daddy to send you on a surf trip

....good god what a waste of time

It's the bottom contour of the sand that makes a wave break the way it does. Sand bar set up. Shelf is overated.(it can eat a way a little bit of long period stuff, but it's not a huge deal). The reason atlantic on our side lacks swell is because storm systems move east to west taking waves with them. Europe's side of the atlantic goes off all the time(portuagal ect)

tell me again about all of europe being better always? shelf overrated? been to Andalucia? surfed El palmar? Semi Secret spots in Rota? Cadiz? getting 1/4 the swell W facing europe gets due to wrap and shelf, but I am sorry to bother you with facts and your internet crusade to expose your ignorance

leetymike good looks bringing that up. I knew there was a slight shelf out west though thought it's considered relatively non-existent compared to the extensive EC shelf. Doesn't the heavy slope and subduction into the canyons and underwater mountain ranges cancel out the shelf, especially with hardly any shelf to slow the increased fetch out west?

Alls I know is out on the WC, I paddle in to a seemingly modest wave, the floor sucks out into the back as the roof is raised and my azz is projected forward. Man, Trestles is mostly kind unless it was the 20-23s period in late January. So are the next 4-5 breaks up PCH which I see a lot of hollow in when I'm there. Then I get up to Honeyton BB and I'm doing cannonballs off of lips. Still fun bro!

You're right about farther north. Ocean Beach SF was not like anything I've seen nor was the PNW. Lines and rows and soup all the way into the Olympic. I'll be hitting both CA and WA/OR/BC up starting late next week so hopefully things will be lined up right on the charts and I'll be stoked nonstop.

yeah, the peaks up and down the beach are scattered, and they can get super fun. i had a blast a few years back surfing there. the mission beach jetty on the other hand...holy aggro-fest.

I hear you on that. Surfed there twice, both times had a problem
People in California are definitely pricks. Glad I can say I'm a Jersey boy, through and through!
