Just like Coke and Velcro, Astroturf is actually a brand name that is commonly used to describe most synthetic grasses. The original Astroturf is that cheap green stuff that I referenced in my original post. They have come a long way since, but they are still known for that cheap low cut plastic-like grass. So while I don't have Astroturf per say, I have another brand that is more realistic and it does not have those pesky rubber pellets. I always hated getting those pellets in my cleats. I originally went to Home Depot to buy Astroturf, but the guy talked me into something more "plush" that had to be ordered. Since I don't have a yard, I really wanted something authentic enough to make me think I had a yard. It's super comfortable and definitely a major upgrade from the rug I used to have out there. The turf has totally transformed my back deck and it looks great with my ocean-rock garden and a few potted palms.
VCT tile is always good. Lasts forever if you put a coat of wax on it. They use it in most grocery stores. Just my 2 cents.
OMG dude, there's Puerto Ricans everywhere around here......MIRAR MIRAR.............. Yeah, I know "real" Puerto Ricans. I used to hang out with "real" Puerto Ricans.....lets see....."Bardo," Angel, Fredo, Mona, Carmen..........yeah, I know a few. Relax dude, I was just funning around. And just because youse guys are married to a certain ethnic, that doesn't mean that they are "OK," just because you married them. Youse guys don't make them acceptable. Kid? Man, I'm 41 years old and I'm so mature. I'm more mature than Robin Williams.
You should borrow a page from Puerto Rican males and run the show. Or ax Mr. Sniffer, Italians do it too, he'll tell you........ Man you are the KING of the household......You're the MAN !! Your first born son is numero dos The next sons are number 3....4...... Then comes your wife and then lastly any daughters.....You know the Chinese kill female children.......... Say what's up to Eddie for me, and give him a chesseburger. So.........you have to get locks for your bar.........So, your daughter is drinking already? I guess that's kind of cool....I guess. Get 'em used to it at an early age, I suppose.........
Oh and let me apologize from taking this thread off course........though it's not surfing related - which is a crime on here. So sorry, I hope the Tool Time mothertruckers like Erock aren't getting all sore and sh!t.
Holy $&$@, big brother really is watching. Nothing is sacred. With the NSA catch-alling our cellphone and land line conversations since 2001 and twitter data basing all entries, email catches for .gov .... Now this?
I saw an ad pop up for a laminate wooden surfboard that can be dis-assembled into man-cave flooring... ...only $1.5 mln...
No offense to the people commenting, I know its all in good faith and just trying to help someone out, but most of the advise on here will only cause you headaches. Don't have the time or energy to discredit 99% of the recommendations on here, and i'm not here to knock anyone's well meant intentions. but i'm 3rd generation commercial flooring, and if you want some realistic flooring options that won't fail within 12 months, PM me.
Listen to this man aka fins369, Chucky, instead of posting your worthless, gnome-idolizing, self-aggrandizing, narcissistic, inflated dense-sense-of-self crapola. PS - - you'll understand 'crapola' - - the rest you will need to Google.
VCT is great in certain applications. If this floor is not near 100% level with no bumps or even small pebbles or rocks of concrete, you'll see some tiles with raised edges if not cracked after putting weight on the tile when it's stressed at a point by the piece of stone. Some VCT is more flexible that others but most crack when not on a perfectly flat and level surface. The alternative is getting a machine that smooths the floor out yet that's a long, loud and tedious process.
DL, my brah, long time since we've rapped a bit. Hope you're well. AstroTurf is its original form is like plastic steel wool carpet used in the Houston Astrodome in the late 60s. The stuff at HD is like confetti glued to a thin rubber mat. There's no padding or pile in that and the "turf" is 1/10 the quality and length of fake Christmas tree bristles. That's not in the same universe as AstroTurf in the athletic sense. The real stuff is a spongy and abrasive surface that may or may not have a padding adhered to it. These are not fake blades of grass. The other turf for sports or lawn purposes is synthetic grass which debuted as NikeTurf. It comes in various piles "heights" and is filled with either silica sand, ground up rubber, or a combo of the two. If you install the synthetic grass without adding either fill, you'll be both feeling the concrete or other hard surface underneath and enjoying a completely matted down "lawn". You don't want to go anywhere near HD for turf stock. This is a product to be purchased strictly in the flooring industry, most of which comes out of Dalton, GA aka the capital of Deliverance. It's a competitively priced industry that will run anywhere from $1-$4/sf and that range stretches from unpadded AstroTurf and unfilled synthetic to top of the line filled high-pile synthetic. I built an athletic facility by hand and researched the bag out of the reno prior. I've stepped on a few fields in my day as well and rented many others so I've enjoyed watching this industry come full circle.
You presented this reply properly for the most part and a life in the flooring industry clearly gives you a level of expertise where you've likely seen it all. That said, I'd be interested in hearing your rebuttal to the many suggestions and methods presented as you may have something to add to each of them. Nonetheless, I've laid a few floors in the commercial, residential, and motor coach settings in my day and seen many more done by others. I've used nearly all the product lines mentioned and in applications from brand new construction to Mickey Mouse warranted retro fit. This is a good thread and I think we'd all appreciate hearing new thoughts. There's a lot of ways to skin a cat and many things mentioned here are correct even if they can be aided by a certain detail you know of.
