Heading out to Matagorda tomorrow and was wondering which spot people like to hit best. Heard you can swim across the river and walk down aways. Also heard shell beach on the public beach side is good. Any feedback would be appreciated.
a 4x4 is needed to get to the shell banks. In between the jetties get really nice sometimes. I never paddled across to that beach on the other side, but i heard it fires on the right swell.
My buddies drove in there 4x4 toward the banks to camp one night, I headed out in the van after I got off real late. I got out to bay city, They said don't come out tonight, we will come get you in the morning, don't try try to make it all the way out in your mini van... Well I waited, but when I saw the sun come up in the morning, I was so pumped I just headed off down the beach.I made it all the way down to where they were (turns out it wasn't all the way to the official spot). But at least got three miles down the beach, where the water and the dunes aren't to far apart, Made it there and back, didn't get stuck. Funny story. Regardless of my story, my input on the situation is. Can't go wrong with Gorda no matter where your at. It's a walled up Bach break with plenty of fun peaks up and down the beach.
