And for the URI/high school kids...please, spots in rhode island are mostly fickle they aren't for who can catch the most waves and snake as many people as you can all day ****. HAVE RESPECT for everyone. Young I understand. STOP almost had to smack a dubstepper in the lot upon my exit. ****. You dont need every wave in front of you. It's funny, b/c despite the crowds, I watched at least 10 waves go unridden there saturday afternoon...dude's not in the right spot, some were paddled for and missed, no one hitting the this on the this side, etc...no reason for d-baggery.
That's because the faction of FOGs on LBs that the OP was ranting about are having a sausage convention on the same peak. Is it the preferred peak? Unfortunately. But there's a lot of surfable peaks and shoulders there on a good day so sheepkook who's dumb enough to be amalgamated into the Idiocracy that one peak is deserves a nose to the eyeball. I'd be superstoked to be there on a decent day and see the middles and the insides wide open. Most non-arctic days that are clean swell there's a fair representation of the local meathead glitterati on each wave. Someone also needs to tell Mr. LSD that he's not the only LSD name shaping sticks out there and the other is way above his arse on the food chain. Nice crappy goatee bro. Ouch about the FOGs on longboards. Having said that, I've never had a bad time at Matunuck or PJ. Seems like whenever I'm there it's really chill . . . 'o course, I don't go in at PJ when it's firing way overhead. I just watch from the comfy rock beach.
It's a grand ole time no doubt at both spots. I'm still stoked to the gills. I've just had some of my best rides ever cut short due to the above douchebaggery. It's not everyone there either. Rhodey actually draws chargers from like 8 different states it seems on the best summer and fall swells. But how many TC's do you need to make a great peak and break go bad? Not many if their kookery is steady across the whole sesh. There's way more "big fish in small pond" mentality on the EC and NE. Try that elsewhere in places that dudes have surfed since they were in dad's testes and see how far it gets you. I may check out Rhodey this week/weekend since MA is maybe getting the Thursday bump and nothing else. It's been a dry few weeks here for swell aside from the stoke you guys got while I was in the PNW. Every time I fly somewhere to get stoked it's flat here before and after but goes off during. At least I usually score too and usually warmer.
Completely agree with this. I've had some great seshs at D.H. and M.P. Its mostly those college kids that raid those spring swells in reef walkers and surf caps. Headin down to Mat. soon, hope to score some little peelers.
It's that bad in the middle of winter? ughhh No escaping the crowds there, but of couse nothing in matunck is as crowded as a average beach break in southern CA
If you really look at that pic it's not that bad. Only one real drop in. There's a guy going left. A guy behind him that's obviously not going to make it. A guy going right and a douche burning him... And a SUP that looks to be in the way, but plenty of room to go around him...
I haven't surfed matunuck or pj in forever since I'm back in jersey but matunuck was always real chill is long is you stayed out of the old lb locals way, i've seen then gang up on people, at PJ i've encountered a few **** heads but nothing major. I miss RI i loved living up there.
I have just never experienced that at Matunuck. Every time I've been there -- which, in the last two years since I moved to RI, have been a bunch -- folks have been cool. People take turns, and when someone else paddles for the same wave as me, we agree who goes left and who goes right (not usually hard to figure out). Except on the biggest swells I've always found that folks at PJ spread way out, and cluster by their types of preferred waves, with the best surfers moving way south around the point closer to the big rock, and with waves breaking farther out. I don't head out there.
Ya, thats where the top of the P.A. point is (I tried to abreviate to not make it so obvious. I hope you know what I'm abreviating) . I usually never surf there either. Paddled there once from P.A. and lemme tell ya, wish I didn't. Looooong paddle back if there are no sets and real shallow shoal too.
God i love both those spots. Localism and general deuchery is way lower than down in the south here. tunic fires at dead low tide.
