Wow good fight. McGregor won 6-7 rounds and then gassed, Mayweather came on strong and the ref stopped it in round 10. He fought a good fight though.
I thought the ref could of let it go longer. He never went down. He was tired but not beaten. I think the score cards were BS too.
Hahahahaha your effing funny dude. Ill give it to you, you defend your guy to no end. But you're so wrong. 1) let out go longer? He was rocked, not defending himself, and wobbly. The excuse that he gets wobbly when he's tired is BS. He got rocked. 2) he won 6 out of 7 rounds? He also didn't get any points taken away for all his punches to the back of the head and hammer fists. It's boxing. Not mma. He had what, a year to train? Get used to it. Any other boxer would of had points taken away after the 2nd time. Granted some of those shots where on Floyd for turning his back, but there were plenty that were all on Connor 3) Connor landed some heavy shots. I thought he had knock out power. I'll give it to him, he did better than i thought, but he was hyped up like i said way early in this thread. He's good, but nothing special. He landed the heavy shots. Floyd wasn't phased..... and he's in his 40s..... It was a good fight and Connor did well. But all the hype surrounding him was just that. Hype. And you bought into it. He's heavier, longer reach, younger, "knock out power", trained for longer. Still got tkod. Never put Floyd in a position where he was close to losing. I know you'll defend him again. But you got to let your personal opinions go. He was rocked. Tired too. But wobbly from being rocked. He deserves respect. But he's NOT "something special" like you and so many others thought. I told you man.
Whatever man. He did win at least 6 rounds, maybe even 7. He was winning easily till he gassed and started getting tagged. He did far better than the experts said he would do. The hammer fists we're kinda funny but he never lost a point. Floyd was putting his head down on purpose to try and get a point taken, so he was playing the game too. If you can't see that this kid is special, you're crazy. He was landing and controlling the fight for the majority of the fight against the greatest boxer in the world. He was beating him at his own game. He popped that jab and hit him with good combos and even landed a big upper cut that rocked Floyd. Credit to Floyd for hanging in there till the later rounds to be able to fnish strong. That's the longest Conor has fought aside from sparring. The outcome may have been the same if the ref let it continue but you never know if he would have caught a 2nd wind between rounds.
No doubt he is "special" and probably the best in his own sport (UFC has him third behind Mighty Mouse and Jones). Don't remember who said it now but Conor would need 5 years of training in boxing to be able to compete professionaly. He is a special athelete but lacks training in boxing. Now its Mayweather's turn to show how special he is by taking a fight in MMA.
I would have given him 4 rounds at best. But I'll give him kudos for a very respectable showing though! I think Floyd's age was a bigger factor in Conner looking better than we thought he would. Floyd looked every bit of 40. Good thing he is retiring, GGG would wreck him now a days.
Don't get all bent DP. Your misunderstanding. He did really well. But he wasn't "winning" till he got gassed. On paper, your right. But can't you see that's what Floyd wanted? For him to get gassed. And your totally right about Floyd and the hammer fists. He was doing it on purpose. Which is what i said in my last post. He was landing strikes, not controlling the fight. Floyd wanted him to get gassed. Connor played into Floyd's plan. First round i knew it. Connor came out swinging. I immediately said "it's over he's going to get gassed". Connor did great and far exceeded my expectations. I'm not saying he shouldn't be proud or that he didn't accomplish anything. What your misunderstanding is this. I said he's not special. Its all relative. Obviously he did great and accomplished allot. But to be able to knockout (which you and others thought would happen) the greatest defensive boxer in the history of boxing in his first ever fight is not realistic. It would take a special type of person to do that. He landed the shots, which is impressive. But he couldn't knock Floyd out. His power wasn't enough. To summarize, he did amazing, but his lack of experience was very obvious. He's gifted, just not a gifted as everyone thought. Special, just not as special as everyone thought. He had every advantage except experience. He landed shots. Good on him. Impressive. But he wasn't controlling the fight. He played right into Floyd's plan. On paper sure it looks that way. But your love for Connor is hindering your ability to see the bigger picture.
This right here. This is what i meant when i said he's not special. Go through your points you made in this post. 1) great shape and can go 12 rounds...... He gassed 2) Floyd's brittle hands..... yet the still tkod Connor 3) if the left gets through its over..... well it got through, and landed, with 8oz gloves. Floyd didn't go down. He's special, just not as special as you thought
And one last thing. Connor really did way better than i thought. Definitely gained some respect for him. But that excuse that he gets wobbly when he's tired.... come on. You did great, but lost. And that's ok. Don't make excuses.
Strikes landed..... you must of missed the stats last night Floyd- 53% Connor - 26% Take a look for yourself..... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bl...us-conor-mcgregor-boxing-mma-ufc-results-news
Going to agree with the consensus that Connor got at least the first four rounds and petered out. I won a few bucks from people betting on passion instead of with their heads. Boxing and MMA are two different animals. All in all I thought it was entertaining and there are no real losers in that bout, they are both extremely wealthy from one fight and Connor is NOT a traditionally trained boxer so there is no loss of face, guy did great against one of the all time best. Have a buddy in Irish heavy Quincy Ma., said he was in a local bar and after the first three rounds took on all bets against Mayweather, said the crowd was all but convinced the fight was over. He made some serious money, can afford a new motor for his boat now!
You got me. That said, I think he can go 12 rounds though, he did it in training, but I'm sure the adrenaline of fighting Floyd in front of the world vs. scrapping with Paulie in private had a lot to do with it. He'll get that fixed if he continues with boxing, which I think he should. He's gonna learn a lot from this and come back even better. And I still think he's as special as I thought. He didn't win this time, but he will win in the future. What he did in there was nothing short of special considering where he came from. Side thought... what did you think about the time Conor hit Floyd with a body shot that almost dropped him and Floyd acted like it was a low blow and the ref broke it up when Conor was about to put him down? It was a low body shot but it didn't look illegal to me. Coulda been the end of the fight if ref let it go. Floyd was hurt.
These stats don't tell the whole story. Take the 1st 6-8 rounds and break those down, I haven't seen the breakdown but I bet Connor was landing more in those rounds. Most of Floyd's shots were landed in the last round and a little bit in the rounds 8-9. It's like dominating for 3 quarters of football and then blowing the lead in the 4th quarter. All he has to do is stay fresh for 12 rounds and he can be the best in boxing.
I agree man. I think he's lack of ability to go 12 rounds was a experience thing. He didn't pace himself. He could definitely pursue a boxing career of he wanted. He would need to start at the bottom though. He needs experience to learn the game. The skill is there, he just needs to learn to use it in a boxing setting. With that said, it doesn't sound like Dana white wants him boxing again. And like i said, he did really well and exceeded expectations. He proved allot. Me saying he's not special is in comparison to the hype surrounding him. I definitely gained respect for him. Plus I'm half just busting your balls. I dont recall that body shot you speak of. Had a new puppy running around where i was at. So can't comment on that. Connor did land a uppercut that had me worried. It hurt Floyd. It just wasn't enough. Floyd kept composure and recovered. At the end of the day, in any sport, similar things can be said. If this happened or if the ref didn't do this. So the what ifs is irrelevant. I'll have to see if i can find the clip of that shot.
