greetings fellow swellers I seek medical advice. last night I'm brushing my teeth, when I rinse my mouth and look in the mirror I notice like a long blackish patch in the center of my tongue extending to the back of tongue.wtf is this?it seriously has me scared,im looking up images on google and everything is pointing to oral cancer and tongue disease.shyt I'm not that old,i cant really see why I would get something like that...brush my teeth everyday, drink mouthwash,i don't get it.i don't eat a lot of candy. next what kind of dr do I have to see, because I definitely need something for it and need more answers.i don't know if I call a regular primary care physician or a dentist or a specialist,i do not know.so help a sweller out... as far as everything else I feel completely healthy,i can feel the patch on my tongue but I don't feel sick or anything like that.i do have a bad cough and wonder if its related
Sounds bad Cep, get to the Dr. ASAP, seriously. Start with your primary care I would say but you'll probably end up at a specialist. Oral cancer can get anybody at any age. Given your extra curricular activities, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility. Not to scare you, but get it checked.
Are you a smoker?? What is the origin of your cough? Do you know?? Do you have a fever? Are you an asthma patient? What is your age, btw?
I concur, see you doctor (primary care physician) right away. If he (or the office is) is tech-savey, email/text him a picture. Sorry to hear this. .. will pray for you man.
I do not know the origin of my cough. I do smoke but its less than a pack of day.i work near a bunch of welders that weld all kinds of exotic alloy materials and heard the smoke from that can lead to a sinus infection.thats what I think it is(the cough),its not that bad,i just spit up little pieces of flem, its just irritating.early 30s.my mother has asthma that she got later in life, didnt have it as a kid,im wondering if I might be getting asthma.. but I'm more concerned about my tongue tho
thanks for the positive words,im hoping its just some kind of infection and nothing serious.but its definitely freaking me out,i don't know how long I had it,i just noticed yesterday.like I said I feel completely fine I'm not sick or anything but I definitely need to get it checked out asap
Could be bacterial. Definitely get it checked out because you never know, but it may be harmless. Maybe just need to double up on oral hygiene. The coffin nails aren't doing you any favors either.
I didn't know you're so young. This would be a most excellent time to quit cigarettes. You can still reverse damage you've done to your lungs and heart. So many ways to help you quit, the patch, the Nicorette gum, hypnosis, the Quitlines on the telephone. I wonder what you could do with all the money you'd save from quitting. Trust me, it's not pretty to see what 40 years of smoking will do to you. It's a miserable way to die- I have buried too many people who died from cigarettes. Do it now.
its easier said then done betty.the worst part is,i didn't start smoking til later on in life in my 20s,and I always used to give my buddies shyt growing up with them just starting to smoke ciggs.my job is a bad influence with smoking,my foreman smokes 2 packs during the 8hr shift,no joke.and when ur standing around doing nothing, waiting for work u have a smoke. I'm also starting to think the dabs may have an effect.i honestly don't do it much anymore, but I know the heat is bad to inhale got a dr appointment tomorrow in the am,so hopefully they say its nothing antibiotics cant fix and I can stop worrying
If you can, get rid of the cigarettes. I did. Not easy, but do-able. The gases put up by welders does not help asthmatics, that I can assure you of. Asthmatics will cough up phlegm as well with their cough, but restricted breathing with wheezing is the hallmark of asthma symptoms. The tongue discoloration needs to be checked out by an MD, especially if it persists. Just because you "just" noticed it, doesn't mean it hasn't been there for a long time. If still the same size early next week, call your doc. Good luck. Hope it all means simply that you need to go surfing on an all expense paid surfing trip to the destination of your choice. Best of luck.
Be sure to tell us what the doc says. Quitting cigarettes will be very tough. Those dam cig execs tweak them for maximum addiction properties. When you're reaching for a cig, you are not choosing between smoking one versus not smoking one. You're choosing between lung cancer pain versus longer more comfortable living. Heck, you could start a quit thread and each day post how you resisted the addiction and chose life.
I too quit cigarettes almost 10 years ago. It was my 2nd and final time quitting. It was extremely hard but you can do it Cep. Half a pack a day is nothing, it's almost pointless to smoke that little because you can still get cancer from them, while not truly enjoying being a fulltime smoker. Not a fair trade off if you ask me. Stick to the herb, it's far less harmful and far more enjoyable. Start by eliminating one habit at a time. For me I started by not smoking when I got in the car. Then it was after meals, and lastly, after sex. Just break those little habits slowly and eventually you have no reason to smoke. Shouldn't take but 3 weeks. That's all it takes to make or break a habit, it's a fact. Give it a try. The first 3-5 days are hard, but fight through it. After 3 weeks it's no longer a habit and if you go back to them it's only by choice, not by addiction. Trust me on this.
I used to smoke atleast a pack a day. I quit. Deffinitly was hard but in all honesty, not as hard as I thought or as hard as some people make it seem. The big factor is whether you WANT to quit or not. I tried quitting a few times because family and friends would urge me too. Couldn't do it because it's not what I wanted. Once I wanted to quit, it was done. Still to this day though, it's that oral fixation that gets me. Stick a tooth pick in your mouth, chew gum, eat sunflower seeds mmm. As far as the black on your tongue. I'd get it checked, which it sounds like you are. If you brush your tongue does it come off? If not it sounds like it could be something that deffinitly needs medical attention. Best of luck to you homie
My theory on smokin is this... How often do people try to avoid stuff everyday? Working out, work, kids, etc? By not smoking it is just one less thing you have to do
If one had less than 300 posts I would you'll be fine don't worry about it. GET IT CHECKED OUT. DONT WAIT 230 DAYS FOR A SPECIALIST APPOINTMENT EITHER. Not sure what state you're in or how good your insurance is. In some states you could wait till your dead for a specialist but march into a hospital and say you don't have insurance or a job and they'll check you out for free and bill the state.
