Hi All, I just want to ask if anyone ever tried using medical cannabis as an alternative meds? I have read many articles about medical marijuana and how it can help you in terms of chronic pain, glaucoma, eating disorder/anorexia, anxiety disorders and panic attacks, inflammation, even cancer and a lot more. Like this article about a marijuana strain called Darth Vader Og from:http://www.ilovegrowingmarijuana.com/darth-vader-og/ . Cbd and thc are also new to me and I don't even smoke. If this is true I cant find any solid conclusive evidence that speaks to its efficacy. Any personal experience or testimonial would be highly appreciated. Thanks

You will not find ONE well done Double-blind, controlled, randomized study with sufficient patients (400 or better ) to make a determination for medical use. Not one. If no study has a "p" value (statistics) of greater than .05, in large patient population, it has has no worth - results then, have been arrived at by chance and chance only.
All those claiming miracles are just that, miracles (placebo effect). Having said that--the sh1t may work, it is just that there is no evidence based medicine to prove that it does--it is all, presently, anectodal...

Now, be a good boy, run along an write an intro post, including pictures of your GF (naked, of course), your board, your dog, your car, etc
    ....

Ahhh... another medical advise tread. You've come to the right place.

Barry's right about the lack of scientific data.... and he's also right about the reality of it being helpful to some patients suffering certain illnesses. The reality is, we just don't know, and it's because doing the proper testing to determine marijuana's health risks and benefits doesn't get the funding and support it needs.

I wouldn't entirely rule it out, but I'm afraid its more wishful thinking than anything else.

Works for me. Helps me control depression / anxiety and also helps me treat excessive sweating from Hyperhydrosis brought on by anxiety. It does what the anti-depressants couldn't do and it's less harmful and it doesn't change who I am like those pills do. Paxil, Zoloft, Xanax, etc., none of them helped me. I hate taking them.

The vast majority of research has been preclinical. In order to even get to clinical trials, there has to be a review of all of the preclinical data. There's been more than 1000 studies (most of them focusing on addiction issues) on pot, but the last I read there were less than 20 that even came close to the standards Barry is talking about.

So to me... there's not enough scientific research to support the claim that marijuana has medical benefits. The issue that concerns me is why isn't the research being supported? Why isn't the research that's needed being federally funded? Just fund the freak'n research and find out... end of story.

You sound like a cop. Are you a DEA agent? Come trolling to catch some doobie smokers? Are you a narc? You have to answer or it's entrapment.
Thanks and have a great day!
    PS
What ever happened to intro threads around here? This is the third new guy in as many days and not one intro thread. What is wrong with everyone on here? Where is Carter and Blasters? Where is Whalerus? Mr. Belmar? Why aren't we stomping on the new guys? These guys need the "soap in a towel" beating.

    LB,
They don't get Federal funding because it doesn't fit the Federal "war on drugs" agenda. Addiction studies fit the agenda, finding a possible benefit to Cannabis does not. Weed is classified the same as Meth. It's insane. It's the perpetual police state. If you can't make war on another foreign enemy, turn the war machine resources on the people. They have to justify spending billions so cops now look like special forces soldiers.
    F@ck em!

You are a dumb ass if you believe any traditional pharma company has anything to do preventing pot research. As the dumbass that you are, it is the NIH that has done preliminary studies and found no valise reason to continue. Dumbass

This from the guy who s the d of the companies who said that pain killers aren't addictive and who at the same time is addicted to Vicodin. This is a conundrum it is.

I don't know Barry. MIS may have a point...although for a different industry, DuPont sidelined the industrial hemp industry decades ago so they could push their synthetic business model through lobbying and it worked.

Check out www.medicalmarijuana.com then go to research tab. Some interesting articles on various ailments. Maybe not Barry tested and approved but studies from here to Budapest showing some interesting (albeit mostly anecdotal evidence and not quadruple blind tested) results.

Not sure I have ever seen a study that proves it works though. The one thing I'm pretty sure of, it helps glaucoma patients b/c Peter Tosh said so!

    Also, isn't the NIA a government agency/institution?
